Took a trip to home depot, found some sad little cacti...

I went to my local not local home depot today. I happened to pass right by the succulents section and I found two very familiar looking cacti. I don't think they're T. Pachanoi because of the spine colors, but I guess it never hurts for a second opinion.
Anyway, the purpose of this thread. The frack is wrong with the people who propagate these cacti? They hot glued fake flowers to the tops of these cacti. I even saw a crested cactus with flowers plastered all over it. What the frick?
Cactus 1:
 Cactus 2:

Regardless of what they are, I might go back and buy them tomorrow because they look very healthy. I think they were like $4 each.

Stetsonia coryne "The Toothpick Cactus"
One of my favorite plants because of the spinal patterns.
They are also said to be fairly active as well

Are they useful for grafting? I would love to have a larger pachanoi learn how to graft with. They are very nice looking cacti.

I've never grafted to them mainly because I love how they grow naturally but I wouldn't see why you couldn't. I figure they might work pretty well considering the thick spines could easily hold parafilm or rubber bands fairly tightly on the old areoles.
Give it a try. That's how we learn around here buddy from first hand experience and seeing the results of those attempts

I'll probably rescue one of them, but you're right. They are too beautiful to chop up! Maybe I'll just keep an eye out for a pereskiopsis.

I have been known to pick those stupid glued on flowers off whenever I make my pass by the cacti section... I don't understand how people think it looks good...
As for finding some peres, your'e likely gonna have to trade to get some... I don't think the big box places ever carry them...

Me too - I hate them as well !!
But I would be very careful buying a plant from home depot. Have a good look for mealy bug, signs of red spider mite and any marks or blemishes before you buy. Then when you get them home please do quarantine them for at least a month before you put them near other plants. I only buy online from reputable nurseries and mine still get quarantined and acclimated slowly.
