Just curious if this specimen is what I expect it to be.
It's hard for me to tell between the different species of this genus.
thanks guys!

It is for sure the genus Lophophora - flowers would help determine the exact species. If it was sold to you as L. williamsii, I would not argue.

I was pretty sure the genus was correct, thanks for concreting my suspicion. It's a hairy guy, and I bought him from Quebec advertised as LW, so I'm going to assume it's Williamsii

Sorry I made a double post that I cannot delete. L williamsii flowers look like a white daisy with a pink stripe.

You are most welcome, but actually I am British. One of the thousands of Brits living in a warmer clime than at home.

nah, im taking care of Conno's cacti for a bit
i have some seeds now too, purchased a heating mat made for growing seedlings, a tray, soil, a rack and a dual T5 array.
How close should I suspend the t5 bulbs above the soil while i germinate these seedlings?
like a foot over it?

I myself use t8s and have no experience with the t5s but I believe they're stronger and need to be placed higher than others. Possibly use a paper towel for a while to keep from burning them.
What plants are you trying to grow? Some are more forgiving than others.

well for now I am just starting some seedlings from seeds that came from the same batch of cacti that is featured in the OP picture
I have grown san pedro from seed before, and am somewhat familiar with the process.
I know they need more water at the beginning, and a hydrogen peroxide solution sprayed on them can kill off any fungus or bacteria, and some insects/eggs.
What I want to know is how far to place the t5's away from the seedling tray as to get non-etiolated healthy buttons

Between 1 and 2 feet is fine. You may even want to cover them with some shade cloth for the first couple months at that distance. My seedlings can get pretty red under my T5 at about 20".

Not much to look into, a paper towel or the mesh from a window screen both work fine. That's only if they're turning reddish/purple and seem like they want less light.
