seeing how other people such as the elite will not let them do something that they do not want to happen. it is an illusion of some sorts. the elite control the important decisions when it comes to what this country does. i assume being one of the elite(s) that make important decisions when it comes to this great country of "ours" is a somewhat difficult and likely easily portrayed as being something besides what it is.

As you say there are so many powerful forces pulling strings behind the scenes it is hard not to be cynical. However "just off the top of my head": If you are an immigrant or a woman it could make a big difference. and we're all connected so ...

It does make a difference and I think people forget that this government is designed to be slow and expensive; it keeps radical things from happening too fast. If minorities, young people, immigrants, poor people, etc VOTED then the elites would be fucked. The problem is we actually let them run the country by not fully exercising our rights.

The Popular Vote means absolutely nothing given the "Electoral College". We saw that in 2000. So exactly what good is voting, in the final analysis, when it means exactly nada other that a feel good exercise. Worse, by registering to vote and acknowledging that you are in fact a citizen of Washington DC living somewhere in the US, you have just given up rights.

What rights out of curiosity? To me the whole "futility of voting" thing is probably just another ploy to keep black and poor people from voting. Think about it; if voting doesn't matter, then why do the more affluent people vote?
