For some people, jail is as cozy as a home...
When I was in, a guy got a weekend release as he was getting close to the end of his sentence, he intentionally did not come back so he could get an escape charge and serve 2 more years.
They are comfortable there. Free room & board.

Well, the way I see it is that the will to live is just too strong. Regardless of what free people who've never been locked up say, it's much better to live in a box than die in one.

Also, this is a great point.
My father sees jail as nothing more than a vacation. But that's probably because they love him down there. Even after he robbed to police, they made him trustee and head of the kitchen

At a county jail a kid hung himself after a short period of time. I do not believe it was for anything serious. I do not know. But it sure as hell shook the guard up. Treating people like they are nothing then wait a minute, it is supposed to matter in line with my beliefs. He was in a daze.

I train in yoga and meditation. The beauty is you can do both of those things in a prison cell, even in solitary confinement.
IF I was in prison I would try my hardest to meditate and do yoga constantly, thats how I would try to stay sane. When you think of it a prisoner in a cell is not that different from a monk in a monastery cell, the opportunity to focus on the inward spiritual path is potentially there...
I would probably go nuts though I cant imagine being in prison
But that is what I would try- meditate hours and hours a day and do yoga the rest of the time, become enlightened.

Yeah. Sounds great in theory. Does not work that way. The body and mind need stimulation. It is embedded in our DNA. So is movement.
Combine that with solitary you of course do not have quiet, or the ideal conditions for yoga and meditation, fast if you choose. The vents and fucked up vibes through the vents and surroundings.
Go throughout that, volunteer like a government employee did for one night. And he changed his viewpoint. Get support and do it for public awareness just for two weeks. I would enjoy your input after that.
Icelandic. It figures.

Cuz they're full of resentment for the man and it sticks it to the man harder to cost them as much money as possible keeping you alive instead of doing them a favour and offing yourself.

Honestly if I was in prison like that the thought that tax payers were keeping me alive after I wronged them so much would be enough irony to keep me going

I know some won't do it for religious reasons, but that can't really make up the majority, can it? That's no kind of life to live and I imagine if I faced that, I would just end it. That's actually the biggest reason I think the death penalty shouldn't exist, it just releases them, spending your life in prison is the real punishment.
Is it weird to assume if I face no possibility of ever being free again I'd just off myself? Would you?
A lot of convicts find some kind of contentment in their place in life. As strange as it sounds, people can be happy there, especially if they have remouse for their crime and know they got their just dessert, they can make peace with the situation and with their creator in heaven.

People assume this, but then the facts are like you say - they don't want to die. Death is indeed worse than life in prison. You should realize that you would probably feel this way too. Its easy to glibly say you would rather die... but death is really, really scary and the urge to live is ingrained in our essence.

Unless you are in Texas you should just wait it out. You will probably get a pardon or something down the road. Just wait for the democrats to win in your state. Charles Manson and his bitches are only still locked up because of the case's notoriety, almost all the people convicted in California of murder in early 70's have been released. "Life" sounds all good and shit, but taking care of 80 year old inmates is expensive and they are low risk to re offend. Why not just let them out? And the end of the day most people don't have the stomach to keep geriatrics locked up, except in Texas, you are fucked in Texas.

Meditation can lead to pure bliss. This can be obtained in prison.
Even in solitary.
Better to attain enlightenment Then commit suicide.
Plus you could read or write books, practice religion , draw, Master lucid dreaming etc.
