Glove box thoughts

I'm not trying to sound like a smart ass. I'm just a new bee trying to comprehend this. I'm doing the pf tek and its suggested to use the still air glove box. I just don't get why it's needed. I am going to flame sterilize the needle than stick through the lid holes. After this point I'm going to put the jars on a shelf in a closet for the magic to start happening. I' just don't see how it makes much of a difference. I flame the needle outside the box than stick my arms into the box to inoculate seems silly to me. The inside of the box is not a sterile environment. Whatever going on in the air of my house will be inside that box anyway and being that I'll be sticking my arms in and out of the box is going to stir up the air anyways right. Am I a dumb ass ? Do people skip using the box and the contamination rate doesn't change ? Is everyone using the box for pf tek ? Or is it like a 50/50 some do some don't ?

your house is not wet, your box is so your not knocking contams around with little air movement, contams get stuck to the sab

I'm suppose to wet the inside of the box ? Don't I take the jars out of the box when I'm done ?

When a beam of sunlight shows in your windows you can see why.
All those particles floating around in the air.

Yes, you spray the inside with soapy water, bleach solution, etc. and make sure the walls are wet and let the air inside settle. The contams will stick to the wet surface.
When you are done with the inoc, take the jars out and put them on a shelf.
I have seen people do pf tek in open air and it work, but why risk it?

It is good practice for later on when you're working with grains...you CAN inoculate brf cakes outside of the sab...but why?

It's what you can't see that has the greatest chance of contaminating your jars. The SAB is an added layer of protection during inoculation, until I nut up and build a flow hood I'll continue to use mine every time.

I'm new as well but from what I read it's because you're dealing with a smaller more controlled environment. Think of it like this your house is huge and it's hard to clean out all the contaminations but the box is small so it's less hard. And by wet they mean with isopropyl alcohol it will kill all the contaminations in the box then you can inoculate the jars. Make sure you wash your hands with alcohol as well it may not seem like spores are floating in your home but they are thier just verry tinny. Make sure to get 70% and spray the whole box as well as your hands. Also I'm new so some things I said may be wrong.

You wanna spray your sab down with soapy water, not alcohol...the alcohol would dry too quickly and nothing would stick to it.

Yes but the only thing that's hard to grasp is the only reason for the box is for when I stick the syringe through the holes. Otherwise up until that moment and there after that moment the jars are exposed. There exposed when I take them out of the pc, there exposed when I take them out of the sab. I must sound ignorant . But I'm going to follow everyone's advise and use a sab anyways.

The only reason you could get away with not using a sab for pf tek is your dry verm layer... your thoughts are somewhat valid so don't feel dumb...but when you get into agar, and grains a SAB is straight up mandatory, unless you have a flow hood.

The dry verm layer is what keeps contams out during colonization outside the SAB. But during inoc, you stick a needle through the verm layer which opens up the substrate below to contams. you wanna make sure no air born contams can travel with the needle through the barrier.
