Fruiting temperatures going over normal range
    #22445758 - 10/28/15 04:55 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

I'm hoping to do some outdoor edible grows next year, screened and misted.  I am concerned about my fruiting temps though as 75-85 is not uncommon.  Humidity is usually between 50 and 75. I've looked at all the popular mushrooms and the only thing that fits those parameters (I think) is yellow oyster and torq.

My question is for those of you experienced in growing edibles where the temps have gone above the normal range.  How detrimental is
the excessive heat, what are the consequences (reduced yield? increase contam? off flavor/texture)?

Thanks in advance

Pinks? Golden? Blue can handle high temps for short periods. You're biggest problem will probably be gnats and flies whichever variety you choose.

Everything mushrooms says pinks want fruiting temps of 65-75 though...  I wonder how they will handle 80f... 85f...

I briefly (destroyed by slugs) had a small patch of King stropharia and they grew fine while they were in those temp/humidity range.

I also had some Nameko fruiting in my garage and the temp jumped up to the mid 80's. I thought I'd be screwed but they didn't mind the heat. I think Nameko may just need cooler temps to initiate pinning.

no paul stamet's book is just wrong.  they won't fruit much below 60.  they prefer around 70.

Phoenix does extremely well outdoors in the summer. I can send you a culture if you like.
