Have you ever found perfect roommates?

I'm thinking about buying a big house and finding some chill roommates to keep me entertained. I live in a big city (Vancouver), how hard do you think it'll be? Any tips on what to look for in a roommate? I'd have a maid come in every week for housekeeping, so if they're slobs, I'll hire a badass mexican maid and get her to deal with the mess. I've never lived with roommates so any tips would help.

Don't make friends of them. You might have to kick them out. The thing is that it's hard to find people who are compatible with your lifestyle. Some people are messy, some people are loud, some people will steal, some people are straight up annoying. I've had numerous roommates, at one point I lived in an apartment with around 10 people at one time. People would come and go. Lots of partying, lots of bullshit, lots of drugs. Good times, but very bad ones too. The worst are the roommates who dodge rent and make excuses, don't be a pushover. Good luck

I think its difficult to find the perfect roommate. I classify the perfect roommate by someone who you have both a good personal relationship with as well as being perfectly compatible with your lifestyle. I've got a roommate right now who fits the 2nd half, in that his lifestyle is completely compatible with mine. Were both a little messy and lazy, but not too messy that the whole place goes to shit, not to anal that the place is spotless. Both of us stay up really fucking late and he smokes. But he's not really a friend either. Were just roommates. I don't really love his personality, hes a bit of a bro for me, but hes chill and we along perfectly fine
I'd suggest interviewing people before you say yes to anyone.

yeah... that's what worries me. I would have to have a strict screening process, ask them a bunch of questions about their lifestyle, values, etc.. and try really hard to get that first impression out of them. I've been told I have good character judgement skills, so maybe that will come in handy. Still though, anything can happen.

"you steal my meat you're out. and that's why i prefer vegan girlfriends". Should have asked if he wanted to be roomeies.

pricing is so crazy here in vancouver though. I wouldn't if you are relying on roommates to pay the mortgage, too many flakes that will make excuses for not paying. I own a house in the lower mainland, just bought for 600K. In vancouver it would be around 2 million.

Yeah I definitely don't want to live in the expensive parts of Vancouver. Maybe even Squamish, Surrey, or Langley. I won't be relying on rent payments, so that's a plus. Hell, if I love em enough, I might let them live there for free. Im not even doing this to make money, I just want a rad living space.

I'm in surrey myself, just moved out of Langley. I used to rent a commercial space in Langley that I turned into a rehearsal/recording space. Built an apartment there as well. rent was only 1000/month and I had 3 room mates. We could jam out all night with no neighbours, was fucking great.
Then I had to knock up my gf and get married...

Damn. You remind me of a buddy I have here in Surrey... had a bunch of good stuff going on in his life then knocked his girlfriend up. I can see the dread in his eyes.

I'd say that roughly 80% of the people out there are definitely great to perfect roommate. 15% of them are bad. 5% are people you have to kick the fuck out.
Overall. Great business if you dont mind living with people.
But you have to learn how to kick people out. At first its hard, but its your house and your rules.
Go for older people. Some students are fine, but its always a gamble. I suggest young professionals. Immigrants are amazing. Especially those from the Middle East.

You'd be surprised how often that doesn't happen

Living with my family as I grew up was bad enough. I am never intentionally living with anyone again ever.

Hmmmm that would be cool but I don't really know you personally and don't know if we'd get along, though im sure we would because you seem chill nad like you could repect my personal space. Plus, im not sure I want someone from the shroomery knowing about my deep dark secrets Let me think on it.

Hell yeah dude. I'm being dead serious. Is it hard to get a visa or whatever I may need? Would I need to find work first?
