Putting on weight/muscle?

Any suggestions? I'm a pretty skinny guy who hasn't worked out in awhile and probably don't eat enough/healthy enough. Any advice for what sorts of foods to eat for muscle gain and overall health? I may look into creatine and why isolate for my workouts. Any advice is appreciated.

Just eat lots of good carbs like vegetables, yams, oatmeal etc. and save the quicker digesting carbs for when you need the energy to train and recover. And since you're probably gonna be reading on google about it too, don't get too hung up on the amount of protein people say you need to eat. It's the hardest macro to get calories in with I think and you really don't need as much as a lot of people online say you do. I only get in like .5-.7 grams/lb of bodyweight. Don't get trapped in the macro hype either since you're just getting into it, could turn you off from it.
I change up what I eat a lot but the few things that are constant with me are eggs, yams, oatmeal, chicken, beef, fish, vegetables (not as much as I should), & whole wheat bread.
Also, Body Fortress brand protein from Walmart is what I use, it's cheap and tastes pretty good.

When I was 17 I was really focused on working out and eating protein.
I would eat wheat bread and two cans of tuna a couple times a day.
I would suggest eating chicken. Six small-medium meals a day would help.
I tried whey protein but I didn't like the taste so I looked into protein bars. 711 has protein bars that are a good price.
Be careful with creative as its bad for the kidneys.
If I was to take a supplement again it would be BSNs N.O. Xplode. It increases your pump as a preworkout supplement.

-All fruits -All vegetables -Quinoa -Legumes/Beans -Whole grains -NUTS -Fish -Eggs -Chicken -Turkey -REAL Rice. Not white rice. -Milk
Now take a combination of whatever I said above and make a fat meal out of it. Eat as much as you can and snack as often as you can without feeling bad from eating. It's best to be as diverse as possible.

Alrighty. Good start so far. The tricky part is making sure these foods add up to the calories I need to gain mass. I'll probably ease up on my cardiovascular and focus more on weight lifting. This is a great list to start with though. Thanks!

Eat all of that and protein shakes.
when i say protein shakes, I mean a full serving size of protein powder PLUS a ton of other stuff. When I make my protein shakes they are about 1000 calories. I put oatmeal, almond milk, peanut butter, flax seed, chia seed, coconut oil, bananas, frozen strawberries, spinach, kale, greek yogurt, and some other stuff.

Great advice for OP. Only difference I;d say is i do about a gram per lb of body weight but keep in mind all our bodies and genes are different.
My best advise workout wise. Compound lifts. squats rows and presses are all you need. fuck the curls and all that shit focus on getting your main muslce groups stronger and the rest will follow.

Long term, year round martial arts/sports/ weight training combined with a healthy lifestyle
Improve posture to allow healthy blood flow to muscles
compound lifts if you do lift, so you aren't a weak bitch with puffy biceps

Whey is whey man, Muscle Tech is one of the biggest gimmick brands on the market lol. At least they used to be, haven't bought anything from them in a few years at least so I don't know.

lol no
BF WP is about the cheapest whey you can get
isolates and hydro isolates are much more absorable
for about 3$ moar you can get six star which i believe is whey isolate PLUS its packed with BCAA's,glutamine, arginine, creatine and a bunch of other goodies...shit works well i gained 30 lbs on my bench press in one month on a solid diet and three shakes a day regiment
also i know Mucsle tech has a lot of shit out there but its nitro-tech whey and creatine are very solid supps
and compound movements are the way to go to gain flat out mass and strength i.e bench press, squats, deadlift, military press, upright row-lifts

one option would be to acquire some mild steroids and ingest orally and be physically active(work hard, work out, etc.)

I don't really feel like isolation workouts are all that great. They're pretty useful for hard to target areas but overall... I say stick to compound exercising as much as possible. It's still good to do some isolation workouts... just don't make it the focal point of your workouts.

I was just looking at my tub and it's a whey concentrate/isolate blend with BCAA's and EAA's. Very little creatine, but I don't really care about creatine. I'll check out the label at wal-mart next time I go just in case, but I've never really noticed much difference at all between different brand isolates because I get the vast majority of protein from food anyway.

True, I'd agree that compounds are overall better, but there are barely any pro BBer's that don't do isolation lifts. If you want as much size as you can get, it can't hurt.

From an athletic standpoint isolations are bullshit. The goal of isolation shit is to focus on certain "glamor" muscles like biceps. The most I ever do for isolation is preachers and db curls. This is after my compound lifts like power clean rows and deadlift. For instance today was weighted dips 45 lbs added for 5 sets of ten. Db rows with the 110's for reps at the end, power clean and then I do some isolation. The reason people say fuck isolation is because it serves zero purpose as functional strength (the kind of strength that lets you manhandle someone and make them your bitch, not the kind to look like some pretty boy on stage)
Always been a firm believer of fuck the scales and measuring tape, if you lift heavy and work hard you'll get results. My focus has always been "okay now lift this much instead of this much not "i have to get my arms to 18 inches wtf"

Great info. I will have to look into these protein powders and exercise differences such as compound vs isolation. Thanks for heading me in the right direction
