This is my first time using coir. I'm gonna use a spent brf cake to spawn. So I don't need the whole thing. Pain in my ass tho let me tell you.
I figure it'd be less of a waste doing a little here and there rather then ruining a whole mono tub. Which is the plan once I got my feet in the water with coir.

I wet the brick to break it up, drain it good, then dry it out and store it like vermiculite for when I need it. Easy to do. You can dry it out in the oven if you want then it's ready and easy to measure for smaller grows.

Yeah that's the plan. So I just broke up the whole thing and put in a gallon ziplock bag.

use a screw driver alongside the fibers as Inoc said, the whole brick comes to chips in 10 seconds, then use a weight to figure out how much to use.

Yeah that's what I used the fork for. By weight that means if I had x amount of spawn then use x amount of 50/50?

no, more like 1 brick coir = 650g which with a gallon of water makes 8-9qts of sub. do the math to know how much water and coir to add to your 1 cake. decide the spawn ratio yourself..

Nope I like my casing to be a little bit colonized so I heat treat it with low temps. Muda is the one who just hydrates and seems to do pretty good for him.

Pasty sterilizes his coir. Muda does not heat treat it. And just the other day i threw together a straw tub with coir/verm casing that i did not heat treat.
