UK Liberty Cap ID please
    #22444272 - 10/28/15 10:40 AM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Greetings friendly shroomers! I am in a bit of a pickle, and need some second opinions on some mushies. These were found in a very generic area for Liberty caps in the UK (grassy meadow, grazed by animals etc etc).I've identified every other mushy as a definite Liberty cap in the stash, but it's just these two rascals that I can't seem to put my finger on.

Pics:

They are slightly darker in color compared to the others and do not curve in as much down towards the bottom of the cap. They don't have as many typical dark streaks round the bottom of the cap either. They are pretty big, and I found them on their own.. They are a lot more brittle too.. Also, the stem was a lot darker when picked, more of a purple black as opposed to the others being creamy.

Now I honestly have no idea about these little guys,, but any advice is appreciated. The pictures don't really do them justice but either way they will probably not get eaten if there is any uncertainty. The drying process has already begun, and both of these mushies seem to be maintaining the same dark color and not really shrinking at all.

Thanks for the help, happy shrooming

Not a liberty cap - they look like Panaeolus papilionaceus.

Would you poison yourself if you ate those?

There's no poisonous pan species afaik.

I give you the choice of 2 pills.

With each containing one of the following:
Cyanide... Psilocin... Would you take the risk?
Didn't think so.

This is why Positive Identification prior to consumption is important.
