Fuzzy Mycleium in monotub with pic. Looks healthy but???
    #22442702 - 10/27/15 11:21 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

So this is a monotub done with 50/50 coir/verm. Spawn was WBS and MS PE. The spawn jars all colonized beautifully and pretty quick. The tub has also been colonizing pretty quickly as it's only been about 10 days now. It's very white and smells fine. However.... There is fuzzy looking myc that I've never quite come across before. It's not cobweb mod I know that. The fuzzy parts also like stand up almost. I guess just try looking at the pic and zooming in to see what I mean. I'm not thinking it's primordia or hyphnal  knots, but I suppose I could be wrong. There's also as the picture shows, some great rhizo growth and it's about 90% colonized and at this rate should be done in a couple days. There might also be a little too much condensation in the tub. I can definitely see droplets through out. Please give me some feedback, thoughts, opinions, suggestions, all is welcome. All I can think to do is either wait it out a few more days and see what happens, or go ahead and put it into fruiting and giving it a decent fan to clear up some of the condensation. I say it's 90% colonized, however, even the spots that look uncolonized are actually frosted with myc, it's just not as thick. THanks for reading and hoping to get some good, experienced advice.

I cant really tell becauase of the picture, try taking another one without flash, with enough brightness in the room.

Since that is PE, you are going to need to case it.  Use Jiffy Mix, you can find it at home depot. Bring to field capacity and then pasteurize it for 1 hour at 140-160F in some jars on a hot water bath,  I can usually do a 60+qt tub with 1 1/2 gallon jar, probably 4 or 5 quart jars. Put about 1/4-1/2 inch of casing on.

After casing, I usually let mine sit for a day or two then put it into fruiting, ends up working out fine if you put just the right amount of casing on because of how long PE takes to fruit.

I will check back tomorrow, try and post another picture by then.

Aireal mycelium maybe? Kinda looks like myc in pic but as first said pic doesn't show clearly enough.

It *is* just different mycelial growth, but if you notice, there's quite a bit of overlay into the casing itself. This isn't horrible but it will negate the entire point of using a casing layer since the matted mycelium is not going to hold in moisture. You can probably just lightly sprinkle a little thin layer on top if you want.

This is usually caused by either/or: high co2 (is that plastic covering the myc?), low humidity and a very thin casing layer. The arial hyphae are generally caused by the same.
