newbie hunter needs some quick advice

Hey guys, I've decided to go on a quick hunt in my area for some psych mushies. I've never hunted before and just needed a quick bit of info before I go.
1. Should I go near a water source, like a river or a lake? I have both nearby 2. How about forest areas? 3. Is this a decent time to hunt in mid east coast area?
thanks guys, much love!

Not necessarily, no.

Depends on what you're looking for. Your likely candidates at this point are gymnopilus species and liberty caps. The former grow on wood, the latter grow in the fields.

Sure.

I just go out looking an what ever I find,I'll take pictures or most of the time I'll take some home with me if there's a lot of them hanging out. Then I try to find the closest thing that I found on the web an compare them(who knows you could of found something your not sure of an it can turn out to be what your looking for or along the lines of what your looking for),blah blah blah I also add the name of the mushroom an add notes to pictures so that way I'm learning and knowing what's in my area also it's a reminder to let me know what's bad an what's good. When identifying, If I'm not 100 percent sure I ask for ID request people are very helpful on this site thats if you got good pictures and a good description of your finds.
Odds are your not going to find one your first time but you never know. I started a week or two ago and nothing special, but I do find a lot of edibles.
All the spots you suggested will have mushrooms. The beach not so much for my area (814) your beach could be different but I know in the creek/hillside/forest area they are there it might not seem like it the first few times you go out. You need to train your eyes and mind to find them an once you do train yourself the real fun begins lol. It's a fun experience an you got all winter to find them. Hope you find something good an learn some cool stuff. Mush on

Hey man, thanks a lot for the info. I totally see what your saying, I was thinking the same thing when I was out looking, just got home. I did find some mushies right away, but they did not look like active ones to me, I brought pics of what to look for and it looked alomst exactly like these which is a psilocybe species I'm pretty sure? Only the caps were very flat, and the shrooms were all completely white and did not bruise at all like the ones in the pic, maybe you have seen something like this before? found them growing near wood but it didnt seem like any were acutally growing out of wood.
Also can you elaborate on what you mean by having all winter to hunt? I was at first under the impression I would only be able to find shrooms during the late spring to early fall seasons, but now I'm starting to think I am probably just thinking that because im used to working with and growing cubes, which of course like the tropical conditions. I never considered that these other species I am now learning about could prefer a different type of weather.
Thanks again for your reply!

The specimen of psilocybe ovoideocystidiata would most definitely be blue, it is very sensitive to bruising. What you had was probably not an active species

Okay thanks, that was what I figured, because I had brought that photo with me to compare and I figured what I saw was definitely not it because they were not blue it all, totally white.
Thanks for the clarification antity
