Can a cube eat a cube?
    #22440245 - 10/27/15 01:26 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

If I manage to get a mushroom growing outdoors, and I don't pick it, will the decaying mushroom fall into it's own spores and become colonized by new life?

So instead of burying my cakes, should I be crumbling them into jars and sterilizing them for later inoculation?

I wouldn't you still need more sugars and amino acids etc... they'll metabolize what they can but I wouldn't say it's a great substrate to grow more of them on. YPD has P and D too not just Y.

Yeah? I just popped one in the dirt this morning. Am hoping to see something nice pop up. Last time I crumbled it first, and I didn't get anything.

I didn't crumble, they were past third flush. I was really just tired of misting them, so I took them outside looked around saw a shady spot, put them there. Looked around again and saw a pile of sand and dirt, covered them with it and walked away. Neglected the shit out of them and got like a half oz dry. I never watered them but it did rain a few times.

Good luck bro :super: interested how it works out for you. Next year when the weather breaks I'm going to make a batch to put out fresh in the planters and take care of them just to see how it goes.

They will man, saucer full of beer works great, attracts and kills them.

Do they care if it's flat? There's some flat mickies that's been sitting on the porch for a couple days now. Can I just cut the can in half and pop it in the ground and expect results? How far from the substrate should I place it?

Fine if it's flat. I used a shallow saucer so they could get in it easily. A couple saucers a few inches away would be fine. Change it if it rains or maybe bend something to make a little roof to keep the rain out.

Maybe so, I used the trick for seedlings outside and kept a can in the fridge to refill it, every morning when I woke up there was like ten dead slugs and I would dump it and refill. Not sure if it's the alcohol or if they drown. I bet you could do a ring of salt too, doesn't seem to harm mushrooms like it does plants.

Apparently I have it buried near a bunch of arrowhead plants, and they don't have a single nibble on them. I'm hoping they're a repellent.
