here's another quote from another student in another article that covered the protest:
Quote:
DeJuan Lino, 18, said Friday that he wanted to show his support for Fields, hopeful the fired deputy would be able to get another job soon.
Fulton called Fields a “nice guy,” terming Monday’s incident a “misunderstanding.”
“He didn’t have to take it that far, but (the student) should have listened at the same time,” when she was asked to leave the classroom, he said.
source.
it is also interesting to note that this resource officer was a coach for the school, according to the article above. it would be interesting to know how many of the protestors were athletes.
but even then, i can use your logic and point out that 100 students is only 0.05% of the entire student body. not exactly an overwhelming majority we're talking about.
and, judging by the school's report card, which can be found here, the school has produced more presidential scholars than any other high school in the state. it also appears as if it has arrangements with universities like stanford and the university of california, among other high ranking colleges. overall i'd say this looks like a really great high school. kind of hard to imagine it being an unruly jungle with this kind of praise.
It's a huge HS with over 2,000 students, they should have more presidential scholars than the other HS's in the state.

They have a graduation rate of 77%, that's not so super. Also, the amount of suspensions per year (10,000) kind of gives us an idea that bad behavior is not tolerated but does happen.
It also appears that South Carolina has some of the worst HS's in the country, but this one isn't one of them, still that's not saying very much.

as of 2012, 80% is the national average, which is an all time high. 77% seems about right, maybe even on the high side. source.

this just does not follow. for one, it's number 7 in size. but there are also other huge factors that lead to producing high quality students, namely the quality of instruction. i did not mention this earlier but the report card for spring valley also indicated a vast majority of the teachers have master's degrees. i would probably correlate that with presidential scholarships more than population.

You think a high school with 2000 students is huge? My high school had 2,500 student grades 10-12 and it wasn't even one of the bigger schools in the county.
Graduation rate of 98.4%
