Would you mind posting a couple links if you can find them? I'm curious about the details they might have uncovered.

Among the thousands of fatal shootings at the hands of police since 2005, only 54 officers have been charged, a Post analysis found. Most were cleared or acquitted in the cases that have been resolved.
Quote:
“To charge an officer in a fatal shooting, it takes something so egregious, so over the top that it cannot be explained in any rational way,” said Philip M. Stinson, a criminologist at Bowling Green who studies arrests of police. “It also has to be a case that prosecutors are willing to hang their reputation on.”
But even in these most extreme instances, the majority of the officers whose cases have been resolved have not been convicted, The Post analysis found.
And when they are convicted or plead guilty, they’ve tended to get little time behind bars, on average four years and sometimes only weeks. Jurors are very reluctant to punish police officers, tending to view them as guardians of order, according to prosecutors and defense lawyers.

New York City alone pays nearly a BILLION dollars a year in police brutality lawsuits. That's $125 from each citizen of the city that goes to paying victims of police brutality. Tell me this isn't a problem.

i read this article this morning. admittedly, the huffington post can be (and usually is) nauseatingly biased, but i think the author may have some good points.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2015/10/30/student-walkout-backs-fired-deputy-sc-school/74874920/
"About 100 students at a South Carolina school walked out briefly to show support for a school resource officer fired"
My guess is some welcome the discipline in that chaotic zoo called a school.

by the way qman, from the article you linked:
Quote:
John Cassibry, a 17-year-old senior, posted a video of the demonstration and photos of students wearing protest T-shirts.
Cassibry, who participated in the protest, told The Huffington Post that while he did not agree with Fields' conduct in arresting the student, he also did not believe the officer deserved to be fired.
"I believe it is important as a student to voice my opinion," Cassibry told HuffPost."My belief on Deputy Fields is just that — I do believe he was too aggressive, but I do not believe it was any circumstance to lose his job, nor do I believe it was race-driven."
there doesn't seem to be much disagreement over the value of his actions.

Because one of the 100 students in the protest was quoted saying so? I don't think so, bottom line the protest was in support for the officer. I wouldn't expect anything less from a USA Today article.

qman, what purpose would it serve to quote someone who had completely different beliefs than the rest of the group?
here's another quote from another student in another article that covered the protest:
Quote:
DeJuan Lino, 18, said Friday that he wanted to show his support for Fields, hopeful the fired deputy would be able to get another job soon.
Fulton called Fields a “nice guy,” terming Monday’s incident a “misunderstanding.”
“He didn’t have to take it that far, but (the student) should have listened at the same time,” when she was asked to leave the classroom, he said.
source.
it is also interesting to note that this resource officer was a coach for the school, according to the article above. it would be interesting to know how many of the protestors were athletes.
but even then, i can use your logic and point out that 100 students is only 0.05% of the entire student body. not exactly an overwhelming majority we're talking about.
and, judging by the school's report card, which can be found here, the school has produced more presidential scholars than any other high school in the state. it also appears as if it has arrangements with universities like stanford and the university of california, among other high ranking colleges. overall i'd say this looks like a really great high school. kind of hard to imagine it being an unruly jungle with this kind of praise.
