National Autobahn is key, I would get that for starters.
When you go hunting dont just plant on finding active look for all kinds of fungus, it is everywhere in places you would not imagine. Mushroom Identification is a tough act to follow, it will take patience and dedication to go anywhere. Read through the FAQ and do some Reading.

Of course you an always come here for and ID help we can give you.

It depends on what you want it for. Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World by Stamets is a great book about psilos. If you're interested in finding/ID'ing other mushrooms as well though, you'd get more use out of a more general guide. We wont likely have any really nice crops of psilocybes coming up for quite some time around here anyway, so you can always pick up a guide to them later. Morels and a lot of other edibles will be up and fruiting in a couple months or so on the other hand. The audobon one is alright, but Mushrooms Demystified is the nicest I've seen in that area. Not as many color pics as the audobon guide, but it's huge and full of info. If you can find it, I'd get that one.

If you live in the PNW then I suggest Magic Mushrooms of the PNW. IF you live in Hawaii I would recommend Magic Mushrooms of the Hawaiian Islands. If you live in Southeast ASsa or nearby then i would suggest Magic Mushrooms in Southeast Asia. If not then the Audubon Field Guide or the David Arora book, or the Paul Stamets book or Gary Mensers book.

If on the east coast then a good book by A. H. Smith Field Guide to Mushrooms of the East Coast .

If you live in BC then Joseph Amiratti et al., Poisonous and Edible Mushrooms of the PNW and Canada.

sorry man, your books not available on b&n.

ive decided to go with the audoban book since it was significantly less expensive (specifically it was under the gift card limit).

thanks a lot for the suggestions, i imagine i'll make further purchases in the future.

mj--does the southeast asia book include australia? is there a good field guide out there for australia?
