Bacterial jars dude. You can tell by how the grains pressed against the glass are wet looking and won't colonize properly. That black spot is very concerning, I'd toss the jars and start over.

Happened to me before it was like a crispy dark piece of husk didn't effect anything. After I shook it at around 30% it shifted and I could clearly tell it was just a piece of oats shell.
poster above me answered your questions though

It's a possibility, but the jar is still bacterial.

they are pretty wet as they have had a lot of moisture at the top and the droplets have been sliding down the glass, but ya i see how it isn't colonising around it =/ thought the one that appeared to be just a rock was just some rye berry or something

Sorry dude ,contams happen to everyone, I still have some contaminated jars that I refuse to touch cause they're soo nasty looking.
You gotta work on better sterile techniques next time. Always use a SAB when knocking up those jars. And remember, if you started from a MS syringe, you gotta know that they are never 100% clean and could be the source of the contam.

getting your moisture content right can be tricky sometimes, I have some grains moving slow AF right now because they are too dry. Also along with good sterile tech, upping your PC time may help w/ contam issues, think of 90 min as a minimum. My next round will be 120 min.

yea i done two sets of jars and don't know if i have the moisture thing down, i do the toilet paper towel test and they pass. thanks for the tip regarding 90 minutes but i still have 5 jars going good so losing two hasn't hurt me too bad. i have a bunch of pre-bought sub in the fridge i might just let those two jars ride, and throw em in a small tin and see what comes of it.
