Polyfil plugs.

How far into the jar should the Polyfil plug extend when doing whole grains? Is it bad for the substrate to touch the inside portion of the plug when shaking?

if you cut a disk of poly-fill to match the size of your lid, you can then use 1 coffee filter on either side of it to hold it in place.

This is the best filter. I love it.

Does the polyfil plug through a hole poked in the lid not work well? I already have the plugs in the lids and am getting ready to fill the jars in roughly an hour and I have no coffee filters at my disposal.

Yeah it works fine, but since I switched to this new kind, I haven't got 1 contam. Just giving you the heads up.

Well at this point I'm gonna try the plugs in the lids, but thanks for the heads up about the coffee filters, I never would have thought of that on my own.

Polyfill is the way to go for me...cut a SMALL chunk and stuff it through the hole, you don't need much. I was suprised how little it took. If the substrate touches the polyfill when shaking that is no problem. I have 0 contams with this method
