Just got backnin town from work. And went to check one of my spots for P. Cearulescens and came across a couple pretty big lion's manes.

I found one yesterday but didn't photograph it. My girlfriend dried it in the oven but I think she overdid it.

I found a small one in New York last weekend. Tried cloning and failed miserably. GA is a good place for them.

I eat them raw or I dice them and make a cream sauce the medicinal properties are quite astounding.

which medicinal properties have you found so astounding? I know it is known/reported there are many. Any specific you are reporting on?

I don't know about anyone else, but I've personally been trying to track them down for their benefits to the nervous system—especially their reported ability to improve myelination. Both my parents have MS, so I want to hunt down and feed them as many lion's manes as possible, which is sort of how I started learning to forage mushrooms... alas, I have yet to actually encounter one in the wild, so I am currently insanely jealous of the OP.

I've heard that the cell walls of mushrooms are indigestible unless heated thus releasing their nutrients.

If that is true not sure it matters. We chew things before we swallow.

I don't know anything about their medicinal properties, but if that's what you want them for, I would suggest that you just grow them rather than waste time trying to find them. They are really easy to grow and culture syringes are widely available to purchase.

I would grow. But seeing how im in ga. No sporeshop will send any to ga. Regardless if theyre edible non psychoactive etc.. thats why i hunt them. And have no problem finding them. Ill climb the tree or take an axe an chop it down if its growing in a dead tree.

Where there is a will, there is a way, my friend. And take clippings from each on and out into dead logs to continue growing elsewhere

Eh, I plan on inoculating some logs, but they take like a year to fruit, and I don't have a great setup/clean room for inoculating sawdust or the like. I've heard Hericium are tougher to culture than, say, oysters and shiitake, too. Also, since I'm hiking around anyway foraging for other things, it's not a waste of time...

me neither--at least not since i've known what they were--except two that were very browned and well on their way to rotting away.
i did find one while deer hunting about a dozen years ago and at that time all i knew was cube hunting. but i remember it distinctly since i've never seen anything else that looks like white, hairy filaments cascading from a ball shaped fungus.
