ID REQUEST: Amanita Var.Guessowii???
    #22435618 - 10/26/15 11:38 AM (8 years, 3 months ago)

These were found in Southern Ontario (Niagara Region). I was not hunting for mushrooms at the time, they kind of happened upon me in a rather coincidental way so I can't recall what kind of tree they were near. It was on a hiking trail in the woods.

I'm really hoping they are Amanita Muscaria. I'm assuming they are Var. Guessowii from looking at pictures or perhaps Var. Formosa. But I am not an experienced mushroom hunter by any means and with all the deadly Amanita's out there I wanted to be safe so I wanted to ask you experts .

You think so? They don't have those really bumpy ridges on the base of the stipe that I see in most pictures. They do have rings there, but they're not very pronounced. But again, I really don't know what I'm talking about. I just want to be as sure as I can be that these are them.

They look edible to me as for the specific variation im not sure. While these mushrooms are active the experience changes vastly with how you prepare them. When eaten raw they will make you very ill followed by visuals, muscle failure, and body buzz. Dried they will effect you with a light body buzz and make you feel good think pain killer. This makes me believe the ibotenic acid is more important for a mind altering experience and that preparation is for medicinal use. I could have just dried them at to high of temp and kill to much muscimol, but as of now above is what my experience leads me to believe.

it all depends on how a persons body is set up impo, I receive no such different effects whether they are fresh or dried,, its all the same to me..

the only times they are different is when I drink alcohol with them, and this makes feel like an opiate buzz with the projectile puke(cleansing) and nodding ..

Isn't ibotenic acid neurotoxic though? That is why I'm too scared to touch Muscaria, as beautiful as they are. Even drying leaves small amounts.

Alcohol is neurotoxic. And I'd bet you Ibotenic Acid isn't anymore neurotoxic than ethanol is.

IMO. I would never and have never consumed a muscaria. The risk is too high and my liver I already too fucked up to chance it.

I'd take that bet

LD50 (rat, oral) for ibotenic acid = 129mg/kg
LD50 (rat, oral) for ethanol = 7060mg/kg

ETA: so ibotenic acid is about 54 times more toxic than ethanol for oral administration in rats.

I am just sharing my experiences dosage is also much different because consuming more than one amanita raw would be a real task. I can take 6 grams dry which is around 4 mushrooms and feel little or eat one raw and have an actual trip. I am not promoting anything I am just sharing the findings of my experimentation. It may be toxic but I have never noticed a hang over apart from feeling a little dull after a few days of eating them.

Absolutely man it's always interesting hearing about people's experiences no matter what my opinions on the drug are. Your body, your rules kind of thing. How long does the dullness last?

It only lasted a day, but I had eaten them 3 days in a row. Dry or fresh I feel little to no negative effects after one day of use.
