The Worst News Ever * 2
    #22435436 - 10/26/15 10:39 AM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Hi Guys.

I am sad and frightened to learn that we apparently are facing a global worst case scenario as we speak.

If you want to learn what I am talking about, google "Methane Permafrost" or "arctic methane" or "seabed methane" and read what comes up.

Basically unfathomably large deposits of methane on the ocean seabed, under  the earth and under the permafrost is being released into the atmosphere at this moment and worsening rapidly, creating a self reinforcing feedback loop.

Essentially, this appears to be the end of the world as we know it.

I hope and pray that the enormous amount of scientific information on this is somehow wrong or not as bad as it looks, and I would welcome any explanation of why we should NOT worry about this.

I am praying this will take 100 years to totally destroy our civilization or our planet.

If anyone can explain this in simple terms, debunk it, or provide some hope, or provide any helpful info on this, I would appreciate it.

Enjoy your lives, hug your loved ones, and maybe consider not having kids, if you don't already have them.

:peace:

Thawing permafrost could have catastrophic consequences, scientists warn

Scientists at the UN climate negotiations in Bonn warn that new data about the melting of the Earth’s permafrost, and projections of a “permafrost carbon feedback loop,” suggest that the Earth is reaching thresholds where only a new ice age could reverse the impacts of global warming.

Sue Natali, of the Woods Hole Research Center in Massachusetts and co-author of a paper recently published in Nature, told negotiators about the new data and says the numbers indicate we are at risk of slipping into runaway global warming.

“What’s important about these numbers is that, in theory, we can control deforestation and land use change [and] we can control our fossil fuel emissions — but once permafrost starts to thaw, we cannot control how much carbon dioxide and methane is released by microbes into the atmosphere from thawing permafrost,” Natali says.

Permafrost is ground that remains frozen for two or more consecutive years. In some areas, permafrost has been frozen for as long as 40,000 years. Permafrost regions cover about 25 percent of the northern hemisphere's land area.

Carbon in permafrost is frozen in the form of various types of organic matter. But when permafrost thaws, microbes decompose that organic matter. And just as humans breathe out carbon dioxide, so do microbes. And they also release methane, which is a much more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.

Current projections indicate a 30 to 70 percent decline in near-surface permafrost by the end of this century, Natali says. That wide range is a result of different emission scenarios. “Under low emission models, we can expect about a 30 percent decline in permafrost. But under our current emissions scenario, up to 70 percent,” she explains.

If 70 percent of the permafrost thaws, scientists expect to lose 130 to 160 billion tons of carbon into the atmosphere by the end of this century. To put that in perspective, in 2013 the United States emitted 1.4 billion tons of carbon from fossil fuel combustion and cement production.

The feedback loop scientists describe works like this: Thawing permafrost will release large amounts of carbon dioxide and methane, which will lead to rising global temperatures, which will lead to further permafrost thawing, which will lead to rising global temperatures. And that trend is projected to continue through the rest of the century.

Scientists believe this feedback is already happening in the Arctic, where air temperatures are warming twice as fast as the rest of the planet.

Natali point out that the most recent IPCC report, which was already looking grim, did not include data on permafrost carbon emissions. Once this data is factored in, she says, scenarios for the future may look quite a bit more dire.

“International negotiators had set 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) as an upper acceptable level of climate change,” she explains. “To remain below this target, our total emissions are limited to 790 billion tons of carbon. We've already released about 500 billion tons, so that leaves us a little under 300 billion tons. We can expect 150 of that to be taken up as a result of permafrost thaw.”

“This makes it very challenging for us to stay below the two degrees Celsius,” she continues. “Even under our lowest emissions scenario, we're pretty close to 2.2 degrees Celsius.”

This puts even greater urgency on reducing our fossil fuel emissions now in order to avoid a future driven by an irreversible carbon feedback loop, Natali warns.

“Not all of the carbon in permafrost will be released,” she says. “Our current expectation is about 10 to 15 percent of that carbon will be released into the atmosphere. That said, if all of the carbon of permafrost was released, this is not going to be a habitable planet for humans.”

Permafrost Methane Time Bomb

For the most immediate threat in 2014 from a gigantic burp of methane
please read this report and
please start writing to and influencing your politicians.

A vast expanse of permafrost in Siberia and Alaska has started to thaw for the first time since it formed 11,000 years ago, marked in dark blue on the map. It is caused by the recent 3+°C rise in local temperature over the past 40 years - more than four times the global average. Peat bogs cover an area of a million square miles (or almost a quarter of the earth's land surface) to a depth of 25 meters. Those in Siberia are the world's largest.

What was until recently a barren expanse of frozen peat is turning into a broken landscape of mud and lakes, some more than a kilometre across. All only in the past 3 or 4 years.

Tipping PointsThis has the potential to release vast quantities of methane trapped by ice below the surface - billions of tonnes of methane. World-wide, peat bogs store at least two trillion tons of CO2. This is equivalent to a century of emissions from fossil fuels.

This is one of the most feared tipping points. There is a delicate threshold where a slight rise in the Earth's temperature can cause a dramatic change in the environment by triggering a huge and instantaneous increase in global temperature. See Footprints #3.

This melting is an irreversible ecological landslide - a vicious circular feedback that is becoming stronger and stronger, and is doing so more quickly with every passing summer.

Once started extreme global warming would be irreversible.

A significant part of the heat gained during the summer is held within the peat by the autumn snow that acts like a blanket to keep it warm, and thus the heat gained is incremental. This is why the present passion for carbon trading will make no difference to the outcome.

When we start heating these natural systems, the process quickly becomes unstoppable. We do not have any technological brakes we can apply. This is enormously important because we can't put the permafrost back once it's gone. The gasses stored there have the potential to raise temperatures even more than all of our past emissions.
Permafrost Time Bomb

Since the bogs were formed they have been generating methane, most of which has been trapped within the permafrost itself, in ice-like clathrates.

It is estimated that the west Siberian bog alone contains some 70 billion tonnes of methane, a quarter of all the methane stored on the land surface of the world. This is equivalent to emitting 1.7 trillion tons of CO2, which is more greenhouse gas than has been emitted by humans in the past 200 years.

There are already impacts on roads and buildings which are collapsing as the ice-held foundations melt. In addition, once the bog dries out deep sub-surface fires ignited by lightning will themselves create more CO2 to add into the air.

Alarmingly, it has just been reported by Wetlands International that huge areas of wet peatland forests are being drained and logged in Indonesia and Malaysia. Along with the ensuing peat fires this contributes 2 billion tons of CO2, making South-East Asia the third largest polluter in the world behind the US and China.

North Siberian Arctic Permafrost Methane Eruption Vents
Mantle Methane Leakage via Late Permian Deep Penetrating Fault and Shear Fracture Systems Rejuvenated by Carbon Dioxide and Methane Induced Global Warming

Abstract

In North Siberia some 30 permafrost methane eruption vents occur along the trend of the inner (continental side) third of the Late Permian Taimyr Volcanic Arc where the crust and mantle were the weakest and the most fractured. Deep penetrating faults and shear systems allowed molten basaltic magmas charged with large volumes of carbon dioxide and methane free access to the surface where they formed giant pyroclastic eruptions. The large volume of carbon dioxide and methane added to the atmosphere by this Late Permian volcanic activity led to a massive atmospheric temperature pulse that caused a major worldwide extinction event (Wignall, 2009). These deep penetrating fractures form a major migration conduit system for the presently erupting methane vents in the North Siberian permafrost and the submarine Enrico PV Anomaly. During periods of lower atmospheric carbon dioxide and lower temperatures, the permafrost methane vents became sealed by the formation of methane hydrate (clathrate) plugs forming pingos. The surface methane clathrate plugs are now being destabilized by human pollution induced global warming and the mantle methane released into the atmosphere at the permafrost methane explosion vents. This has opened a giant, long standing (Permian to Recent) geopressured, mantle methane pressure-release safety valve. There is now no fast way to reseal this system because it will require extremely quick cooling of the atmosphere and the Arctic Ocean. The situation calls for comprehensive and effective action, including breaking down the methane in the water before it gets into the atmosphere using methane devouring symbiotic bacteria (Glass et al. 2013) and simultaneously breaking down the existing atmospheric methane using radio-laser systems which can also form methane consuming hydroxyl molecules (Alamo and Lucy Projects, Light and Carana, 2012, 2013).

Late Permian Extinction Event

In the Late Permian a massive eruption phase occured along the entire central and north eastern part of the "Taimyr Volcanic Arc" producing an extremely wide and thick sheet-like succession of flood trap lavas and tuffs (Siberian Traps Large Igneous Province) that spread south eastwards over the Siberian Craton (Figure 2, Light 2014). During the Late Permian there was a major global extinction event which resulted in a large loss of species caused by catastrophic methane eruptions from destabilization of subsea methane hydrates in the Paleo-Arctic (Figures 2, 3 and 4)(Wignall 2009, Light 2014, Scribbler 2015, Merali 2004, Goho 2004, Scott et al, PNAS, Dawson 1967, Kennedy and Kennedy, 1976). Extreme global warming was caused when vast volumes of carbon dioxide were released into the atmosphere from the widespread eruption of volcanics in northern Siberia (Figure 2; Wignall 2009) whose main source zone, the "Taimyr Volcanic Arc" on land in northern Siberia (Figure 3) is not a great distance from the present trend of the Arctic Ocean Gakkel Ridge and the Enrico Pv Anomaly extreme methane emission zone. Because the Arctic forms a graveyard for subducted plates, the mantle there is highly fractured and it is also a primary source zone for mantle methane formed from the reduction of oceanic carbonates by water in the presence of iron (II) oxides buried to depths of 100 km to 300 km in the Asthenosphere and at temperatures above 1200°C (Figure 4)(Gaina et al. 2013; Goho 2004; Merali 2004; Light 2014).

Conclusions

Our present extreme fossil fuel driven, carbon dioxide global warming is predicted to produce exactly the same mantle methane release from the permafrost methane eruption vents along the Late Permian "TaimyrVolcanic Arc", subsea Arctic methane hydrates and the Enrico Pv Anomaly "Extreme Methane Emission Zone" by the 2050's, leading to total deglaciation and the extinction of all life on Earth.

Mankind has, in his infinite stupidity, with his extreme hydrocarbon addiction and fossil fuel induced global warming, opened a giant, long standing (Permian to Recent), geopressured, mantle methane pressure-release safety valve for methane gas generated between 100 km and 300 km depth and at temperatures of above 1200°C in the asthenosphere (Figures 1 to 6). This is now a region of massive methane emissions (Carana, 2011-2015).

There seems to be no fast and easy way to reseal this system. To sufficiently cool the Atmosphere and Arctic Ocean cannot be achieved in the short time frame we have left to complete the job. In some cases, it may be possible to reseal conduits with concrete or other material, or to capture methane for storage in hydrates at safer locations, but the sheer number of vulnerable locations and the size of the work involved is daunting.

Seabed methane leaks cause alarm

METHANE is leaking from the Arctic Ocean seabed at a much faster rate than previously believed, raising fears it could quicken the pace of global warming, according to a study published in the journal Science.

Scientists from Russia, the US and Sweden found that about 8 million tonnes of the potent greenhouse gas leaks from the shallow seabed of the East Siberian Arctic Shelf each year.

The research shatters the belief that sub-sea permafrost is an impermeable cap that prevents the release of methane.

The finding is significant because of methane's greenhouse qualities. It is more than 20 times as potent a greenhouse gas as carbon dioxide.

Led by researchers from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, the groundbreaking six-year study found more than 80 per cent of the deep water and more than half of the surface water had methane levels about eight times higher than normal seawater.

The scientists said the leak did not alter global warming projections ''alarmingly'', but warned it could be a precursor to much larger ocean emissions if the permafrost covering two million square kilometres of seabed destabilised.

''This discovery reveals a large but overlooked source of methane gas escaping from permafrost underwater rather than on land,'' the paper said.

''Ocean-bottom permafrost contains vast amounts of carbon, and experts are concerned that its release as methane gas would lead to warmer atmospheric temperatures, this creating a positive-feedback loop that would lead to more methane escaping from the permafrost and more global warming.''

ARCTIC DEATH SPIRAL AND THE METHANE TIME BOMB

The Arctic Methane EMERGENCY

John Nissen, chair of the Arctic Emergency Methane Group (AMEG), talks about the catastrophic dangers that the warming of the Arctic region poses to modern civilization and the possible extinction of humans due to abrupt climate change. This press briefing took place during the 20th annual Conference of the Parties (COP 20) held on Dec. 5, 2014 for the United Nation's Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in Lima, Peru.
1ST PRESS BRIEFING:
COP20: Global Arctic Methane Emergency #1 (12-4-2014 in Lima Peru)

Published on Mar 22, 2015

Global warming is causing CO2 levels to hit 400 ppm, a level humans have never seen. Droughts are spreading and Miami is reporting that the ocean is backing up in the drains.

With all of the global warming a new threat has emerged, the release of methane gas, trapped in methane hydrates on ocean floors. It's release is often referred to as the 'methane bomb'.

The last time a 'methane bomb' went off on earth, 80% of life on earth vanished (about 250 million years ago).

Scientists have known about this feedback loop for long time. Essentially, if CO2 warms us to a certain point where the methane releases become large enough that methane  becomes the more influential greenhouse gas and the warming causes more and more methane to be released. This causes runaway heating.

Honestly, I think this is inevitable. Global temps this year are record shattering by a huge margin. Solar minimum is over and things are really accelerating this new solar cycle.

Livestock is a current major producer of methane, but the amounts stored in permafrost and hydrates is ten of thousand ands of times larger than livestock could ever produce.

On a serious note; I think you are forgetting moon. Those who have power to reverse this and start making attempts to solving these types of problems are the filthy rich. They have money. And until this shit reaches a tipping point where every man starts to see it effect us in a direct and undeniable way, people aren't gonna take it seriously. First it will be the third world countries that suffer, then it will be the first class citizens. Then eventually they will realize it and it will either b too late, or just in time. And then the process of changes will begin. I think scientists can concoct something

 asante I too hold to that beautiful hope.

Moonshoe, with all due respect, I think you are overestimating the severity and urgency of this situation. A large shift in the natural balance like this may take many years to fully roll out. I strongly doubt that this particular situation will cause global catastrophy on short notice. We might not even see the bad part of it in our lifetime.

I'm a prepper too, its OK to do drills, but as I see it, this is a drill, not the main event - the main event might be decades still in the coming.

except find a way to convert methane into usable materials. that's off-limits. hopefully that in the CERN environment we'll find some particles to allows us to create new planets by the time this starts conflagrating the Earth's most populous cities.

Methane has tons of uses. It's a fuel. It's is used as feedstock for making other chemicals. It is the simplest organic compound - there are tons of uses.

methane ice in sea sediment does represent startling amounts of fossil fuel reserves.  if technology moves towards efficiency in extracting it, we might be burning methane for power still in 100 years.

just to be clear, i see that as undesirable.

That's it?

Another month goes by and naturally we get another end of the world forecast from moon. I agree it does not sound too good for the long run but none of us will be around then. One way of looking at it is since nothing we do will make any difference, we might as well say fuck it.

When they invent that super duper fusion machine that asante assures us will be here very soon, then we can stop burning fossil fuels and even suck co2 and methane out of the atmosphere. Problem solved, sort of.

I'd only be for ELEs when it's something that would decimate us as a species, but allow the strongest and most capable to survive. Something even rich people couldn't buy their way out of. It's callous, but we could really use a significant culling. Far too many people are accustomed to having everything handed to them on a silver platter. Time for a reality check.

Warning I may contradict myself here but....

As the idiocies of the human race accumulate, there has to be a result, an outcome - a bubbling up till it all explodes. It all sounds extremely grim and terrifying, I mean at times I am like you do where I fear for this planet but then I remember it is all temporary and transient - so why care? But that is the problem is that we should care because it is the future generations who are going to be hit the hardest - that is if they even get the chance to live.

I think a lot of these problems come from a historical momentum of selfish and totalitarian pursuits. We have this beautiful home, from which we can develop all of these super-technologies and help to create an anthropoid paradise, yet all of our decisions have led us to the edge.

The way I hold hope is I hope that we are intelligent enough to turn it around somehow, I have some hope in space exploration but If our civilisation stays in the cycles of war, terror, fear, hatred, control, over-consumption, over-pollution then there is no point to it.

Humans need a method to show the whole planet what we are doing to the earth, but many are lost in our own personally digital worlds, where we only see what we wish to see - not what should be shown to us for the purpose of knowledge and for truth, rather we are dwindling into a nightmarish totalitarian world.

Funny thing though, life has been on this planet for approximately 3.5 billion years  with many different types of lifeforms arising. So If all humans are wiped then I think the Earth will replenish itself, it will balance itself out and reach an equilibrium.

But hey, even with all this happening, let us try to make the most of our lives on this planet and explore what we have and enjoy what we have.

Peace
:rose:

Moonshoe, with all due respect, I think you are overestimating the severity and urgency of this situation. A large shift in the natural balance like this may take many years to fully roll out. I strongly doubt that this particular situation will cause global catastrophy on short notice. We might not even see the bad part of it in our lifetime.

I'm a prepper too, its OK to do drills, but as I see it, this is a drill, not the main event - the main event might be decades still in the coming.

I really really really hope so.

I have decided that now that I know this is a risk, I am going to stop reading any stress inducing news and focus entirely on two goals- 1. Attaining inner peace through spiritual practices  and 2. Continuing my preparation process.

I hope and pray this wont even begin to effect us during our lifetimes.

Nevertheless I will now focus on meditation, particularly using binaural beats, for hours a day, to attain inner peace, and continuing my stockpile.

I invested another 500 dollars into some key things, particularly a full cord of firewood, a case of datrex bar emergency rations, and a sterilization and refill of all my water supplies.

Also got my storage room clean and organized so it can hold more stock pile, and am cleaning and organizing the garage as I pack it with firewood.

These are the small, practical things I can do that help me cope with the overwhelming global situation.

I am not going to read any more news that can upset me and protect my mental and emotional health.

I am also going to try and enjoy my life to the fullest, which means no fear. I do have some anxiety right now about this, a lot actually, but I know it will pass and I am going to be proactive about eliminating it with meditation, yoga, binaural beats and exercise, as well as lots of relationship stuff like cuddling, massages, and calling or emailing friends or family, as well as religious practice like church attendance.

I am strictly NOT using any alcohol or gaba drugs, because I don't want to exacerbate anxiety in the long run.

Thanks for weighing in people. I hope you have learned a bit about this and I hope it won't effect any of us at all.

I pray that this will be averted, not occur, or happen in the far future.

But the estimates seem to say it will happen in about 100 years and maybe less. But whether that means that is when it will "start" or if it means that will already be a huge global catastrophe I don't know.

I  hope it wont be an instant or like rapid thing that occurs to its deadly conclusion in years or months but rather a process that takes 200 years to really heat up. But I am truly afraid this will be a truly ABRUPT incident.

Anyways, I am going to stop thinking about this now because there is nothing else I can do other then what I am doing.

I am choosing to bury my head in the sand and stop thinking about any scary possibilities or occurences and live in my own bubble of happiness for as long as I can, and enjoy every second of it, while preparing steadily for the rest of my life and attaining inner peace.

Be well friends.

Hug your family!

Look at that, another thread where moonshoe attempts to justify his survival kit purchases

Do you really thing the world coming to a catastrophe for the majority of the population is "the worst news ever"?

I think many would initially find excitement in this return to the primitive. Daily life is a crisis, the dull grind of an office pencil pusher, the routine trip to the grocer only to see the same old face behind the counter. The slow climb up the economic ladder, for an extra large Christmas tree this year. Maybe mom won't have to work overtime to buy diapers, maybe dads back will stop being beat down at the construction site. Trading time for money, the majority of us are. And money never buys enough, for there isn't enough in the tangible sense. Relief comes from the unseen.

For many, a crisis would be a welcome event. I suspect you're one of those people. The subject clearly excites you. The sad truth is that the crisis is already taking place, and it isn't any sort of "global catastrophe" in the tangible sense. It's the lack of a purpose. Every day and every night, we walk along our predetermined paths. Treading forward and breeding without true cause or say in the matter. We sit on a sphere rotating fast enough that if it stopped we would all die, receiving all of our inertia and energy from a ball of gas that would vaporize us on contact.

My fear is that this wont be a disaster just for humans that I could see some benefit for, but a mass extinction for all life on earth. The last time this happened 80% of life on earth died. But I don't want to think about this anymore, and I am going to focus on inner peace.

Solar minimum is over and things are really accelerating this new solar cycle.

what exactly is a huge margin, could it be like .02 degrees?

No one is predicting all life dying, even if things go that bad. No one but moon of course. If 50% of humanity dies, it would give us some breathing room. If 90% dies, it means the strong survived, the weak genes that we've been coddling get eliminated and the race is 10x stronger. No more insulin, hemophilia drugs or other things to keep alive the weak and let them reproduce. The result will be a race stronger and wiser having learned from our previous mistakes. It sounds like a good thing and since it won't bother me in this life, let it be.

Physically speaking I've never had even a minor health issue and can survive on either basically no food or any food and stay the same weight regardless because my metabolism adapts extremely efficiently in my observation. I have boundless energy no matter what. I never get sick and my lungs and cardiovascular system are perfect especially when you consider I have no fat to weigh me down and put unnecessary stress on my body

I think I am good

Yeah right Europeans and Asians got all thetechnology and quite frankly knowledge. Knowledge is power. Africa would be fucked way before the more sophisticated societies.

Doesn't anyone think brains would mean shit?

Frankly ancient civilizations everywhere have had great intellectual achievements except Africa the Australian aborigines and generally people who were isolated from the European middle eastern and Chinese flow of ideas that has been going on for centuries as far as I know. But the ancient mayans and Aztecs were isolated from all that and still had great achievements.

Africa has always been worthless except for ancient Egypt

I presume to be dead before it happens. After it happens, if I'm still around or not isn't that big a deal. I do not prep in the usual nutsy way, no camping gear, no big stockpile of canned goods. If and when it looks like something bad is going down, I might stock up on purifying systems and some canned stuff. But canned goods go bad you know, after a year they taste like shit no matter if they are guaranteed for 50 years. After 5 years you would not be able to eat most of it or it would be horrible.

Africa being held down by Europeans? :lolsy:

That is a good one. The only time they prospered was under white rule. Soon as they had black rule they went down the toilet, need I mention Zimbabwe, Nigeria, or most of the others?

They have recently found evidence that there was a mass migration from asia and Europe thousands of years ago to Africa, not the other way around. They proved it genetically.

No it's not racist to say that Africa fucking sucks and always has because anyone can obviously see that. I'm not claiming it's because they're black, I couldn't really tell you what is causing Africa to consistently suck through history. But. You can't just blame everyone else for eternity. Don't you think people have some control over their own fate and society?

That being said, I would honestly love to adopt starving African children someday and give them a chance to be raised in adequate conditions. Fuck all these spoiled American pricks who think they deserve the silver platter

Muy metabolism is kinda weird, it is normally fast but slows down to a crawl when I don't eat much and I don't really lose weight. But I do notice my ability to withstand low temperatures goes to hell..likely related to decreased T3 hormone due to decreased caloric intake.

You probably watched a bit of the video because "Africa hed no great achievements" got replaced with "Africa sucks, everyone can see that"

Once more, its being held down economically by systematic looting of its resources by foreign multinationals, IMF/World Bank strangulation loans and the western world conspiring to pay insultingly low prices for their goods and tax measures to keep their goods off western markets.

It sucks being the world's outsourced plantation, but that is no fault of Africa. If all other continents vanished Africa would be a haven.

Caloric restriction significantly increases life span in mice studies?? Don't get me wrong I'm not talking about starvation necessarily just going below like 1800 calories a day.

Again I am probably bipolar because I also hoard violent feelings to some people in some situations lol but I honestly can't even ever enjoy food without feeling intense guilt for those who are living in such horrible conditions and would adopt a starving African child if I currently could. I would absolutely allow myself to starve for a long time if it meant someone in such a situation could prosper..

..but frankly it seems unlikely that Africa would ever build a subatomic particle collider just because everyone backed off economically. Honestly I almost feel like the people thousands of years ago who adventured away from Africa were the ones who were daring and adventurous enough to do shit but that's not related to race. Just people who are adventurous and daring vs people who lay around and accomplish nothing.

But again don't anyone be a moron and b put words in my mouth. I'm a lazy fuck who has lost the motivation to accomplish anything and I'm Caucasian lol. I've met many accomplished black folks whom I admire. One of my college chemistry professors was one.

You underestimate the influence the outside world has on the continent.

The continent has its problems but its biggest problem is the chokehold its in. If that influence were to cease it would still be a raped continent with all the trauma that entails, but it would no longer be raped in the present.

It wouldn't be raped in the present by non-Africans. If there's one thing I don't underestimate the Africans in, it's raping themselves.

You are aware that for instance the slave was facilitated by local tribes who were all too happy to cartwheel their neighbors off the continent, right? For all the influence of other continents, the DNA of African society (or rather: tribalism) has never changed.

Feeling at peace. I have accepted the fact that I and the world will die sooner or later but the cosmic symphony goes on. The waves are temporary but to the eternal ocean they return and not one drop is lost.

Yet all this may not come to pass for a hundred years or more.

It might not even begin to effect me during my life time .

Or it may. But I am prepared for a catastrophe as I can be now.

So I focus on spiritual inner peace through prolonged meditation especially using theta wave binaural beats, yoga , worship and today smoking deemz/dimitri at my altar before sunrise .

This seems to have helped so I will continue with it.

If anyone can post anything proving or suggesting that this methane thing will not be a global catastrophe in our age please post it.

But all that matters now is attaining enlightenment as fast as possible . I am also going on a wonderful all inclusive fancy vacation in beautiful Antigua with all my friends soon, so that will be a big celebration of life and enjoying it.

Doesn't this kind of beg the question of what is racism?

Africans as a whole are consistently shown to be less intelligent than Europeans as a whole.  That is absolute fact.  No, this doesn't say anything about anybody on an individual level, but it is extremely important in the study of populations.  Of course, people will try to justify the gap with claims that it all has to do with economic factors and that if we all were equal in that regard then we would all be proven to be equal in intelligence, but this is really no more than a hypothesis which is continually contradicted by actual studies.

If we can't even entertain the idea that maybe, just maybe, Africa's problems are due to the shortcomings of its own people and just keep blaming the white man for everything, then there really isn't much of a debate.

Shroomery is a private web site and I respect its decision to make its own rules about what can and cannot be discussed.  However, I still think it should be pointed out that by censoring other points of views or assuming that the people making them are trying to be mean-spirited ("racist"), it's harmful to society in the long run.  There is a difference between trolling and giving an argument supported by facts.

Yeah, I've felt like I have been on the verge of a panic attack, off and on, for the last day and a half. I probably shouldn't have even opened this thread.

Even the shroomery is bumming me the fuck out, tonight.

:frown:

I do appreciate your perspective, though...

Cause I know where moonshoe is coming from with this stuff, and it sucks. I've been like that, at various periods in my life. Times where I worried about catastrophe and apocalypse too much, and wars, and the economy, and just about whatever else could go wrong. Up to and including government conspiracies and prison camps, and whatever. But while I still find some of that stuff interesting (and who knows-- maybe it's all true, or some of it, or none of it), a point came where I had to decide that I didn't want to stress myself out actually worrying anymore about stupid shit that I couldn't, in most cases, control in any meaningful way.

But unfortunately sometimes I can still be a little vulnerable to stuff like this. Anxiety's a bitch.

So, we're back to this.

Well, i could spend an hour compiling data to refute this garbage, but i already did that in another thread, so i'll just repost that.

Quote:

ballsalsa said:
BTW, WAN,  i see you guys are white supremacy buddies, and thats cool i guess, but you see that i was right about Stoney making unfounded claims, and then not having the data to back it up.  The instead of admitting it, he tried to deflect(once again) by implying that the data would bear out his hypothesis, if only there were scientists ballsy enough to do the study.  Well guess what guys, there are.  here's what a simple wikipedia search has to say about intelligence among the races:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_and_intelligence

Quote:

Geneticist, Alan R. Templeton argues that the question about the possible genetic effects on the test score gap is muddled by the general focus on "race" rather than on populations defined by gene frequency or by geographical proximity, and by the general insistence on phrasing the question in terms of heritability.[105] Templeton points out that racial groups neither represent sub-species nor distinct evolutionary lineages, and that therefore there is no basis for making claims about the general intelligence of races.[105] From this point of view the search for possible genetic influences on the black-white test score gap is a priori flawed, because there is no genetic material shared by all Africans or by all Europeans. Mackintosh (2011) points out that by using genetic cluster analysis to correlate gene frequencies with continental populations it could possibly be the case that African populations had a higher frequency of certain genetic variants that contribute to an average lower intelligence. Such a hypothetical situation could hold without all Africans carrying the same genes or belonging to a single Evolutionary lineage. According to Mackintosh, a biological basis for the gap thus cannot be ruled out on a priori grounds.

Several candidate genes have been proposed to have a relationship with intelligence.[107][108] However, a review of candidate genes for intelligence published in Deary, Johnson & Houlihan (2009) failed to find evidence of an association between these genes and general intelligence, stating "there is still almost no replicated evidence concerning the individual genes, which have variants that contribute to intelligence differences".[109]

Quote:

Some studies have found the gains of the Flynn effect to be particularly concentrated at the lower end of the distribution. Teasdale and Owen (1989), for example, found the effect primarily reduced the number of low-end scores, resulting in an increased number of moderately high scores, with no increase in very high scores.[9] In another study, two large samples of Spanish children were assessed with a 30-year gap. Comparison of the IQ distributions indicated that the mean IQ-scores on the test had increased by 9.7 points (the Flynn effect), the gains were concentrated in the lower half of the distribution and negligible in the top half, and the gains gradually decreased as the IQ of the individuals increased.[10]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G_factor_(psychometrics)

Quote:

The form of the population distribution of g is unknown, because g cannot be measured on a ratio scale. (The distributions of scores on typical IQ tests are roughly normal, but this is achieved by construction, i.e., by normalizing the raw scores.) It has been argued that there are nevertheless good reasons for supposing that g is normally distributed in the general population, at least within a range of ±2 standard deviations from the mean. In particular, g can be thought of as a composite variable that reflects the additive effects of a large number of independent genetic and environmental influences, and such a variable should, according to the central limit theorem, follow a normal distribution.[50]

There are so many things to worry about
So I learned there are only 2 things to do
1. Prepare - now that I know I have done so much to prepare I feel more at peace. Knowing I have done what o can to protect and provide for my wife lets me enjoy my life with much more peace of mind
2. Meditate and yoga- there will always be scary things in life. These disciplines help maintain equanimity in the face of an often terrifying world

I also need to stockpile ketamine , mxe, benzos and painkillers if I can for a real worst case scenario.

I just did a long yoga and martial arts practice and meditation with theta binaural beats and it helps so much.

This times a million. The collapse of mankind is basically inevitable. The question is no longer if, but WHEN

Our ineffecient agricultural methods are what I think will fuck us over the most. That is IMO the biggest area of concern for me

oh ya maybe thats true. At the end of all the suffering and pain, those who survived could start again and learn from mistakes of the past
