I'd only be for ELEs when it's something that would decimate us as a species, but allow the strongest and most capable to survive. Something even rich people couldn't buy their way out of. It's callous, but we could really use a significant culling. Far too many people are accustomed to having everything handed to them on a silver platter. Time for a reality check.

With my face against the floor I can’t see who knocked me out of the way. I don’t want to get back up but I have to so it might as well be today. Nothing appeals to me no one feels like me, I’m too busy being calm to disappear. I’m in no shape to be alone contrary to the shit that you might hear. You can't wake up, this is not a dream. You're part of a machine, you are not a human being With your face all made up, living on a screen. Low on self esteem, so you run on gasoline

Warning I may contradict myself here but....
As the idiocies of the human race accumulate, there has to be a result, an outcome - a bubbling up till it all explodes. It all sounds extremely grim and terrifying, I mean at times I am like you do where I fear for this planet but then I remember it is all temporary and transient - so why care? But that is the problem is that we should care because it is the future generations who are going to be hit the hardest - that is if they even get the chance to live.
I think a lot of these problems come from a historical momentum of selfish and totalitarian pursuits. We have this beautiful home, from which we can develop all of these super-technologies and help to create an anthropoid paradise, yet all of our decisions have led us to the edge.
The way I hold hope is I hope that we are intelligent enough to turn it around somehow, I have some hope in space exploration but If our civilisation stays in the cycles of war, terror, fear, hatred, control, over-consumption, over-pollution then there is no point to it.
Humans need a method to show the whole planet what we are doing to the earth, but many are lost in our own personally digital worlds, where we only see what we wish to see - not what should be shown to us for the purpose of knowledge and for truth, rather we are dwindling into a nightmarish totalitarian world.
Funny thing though, life has been on this planet for approximately 3.5 billion years with many different types of lifeforms arising. So If all humans are wiped then I think the Earth will replenish itself, it will balance itself out and reach an equilibrium.
But hey, even with all this happening, let us try to make the most of our lives on this planet and explore what we have and enjoy what we have.
Peace

Asante said: Moonshoe, with all due respect, I think you are overestimating the severity and urgency of this situation. A large shift in the natural balance like this may take many years to fully roll out. I strongly doubt that this particular situation will cause global catastrophy on short notice. We might not even see the bad part of it in our lifetime.
I'm a prepper too, its OK to do drills, but as I see it, this is a drill, not the main event - the main event might be decades still in the coming.
I really really really hope so.
I have decided that now that I know this is a risk, I am going to stop reading any stress inducing news and focus entirely on two goals- 1. Attaining inner peace through spiritual practices and 2. Continuing my preparation process.
I hope and pray this wont even begin to effect us during our lifetimes.
Nevertheless I will now focus on meditation, particularly using binaural beats, for hours a day, to attain inner peace, and continuing my stockpile.
I invested another 500 dollars into some key things, particularly a full cord of firewood, a case of datrex bar emergency rations, and a sterilization and refill of all my water supplies.
Also got my storage room clean and organized so it can hold more stock pile, and am cleaning and organizing the garage as I pack it with firewood.
These are the small, practical things I can do that help me cope with the overwhelming global situation.
I am not going to read any more news that can upset me and protect my mental and emotional health.
I am also going to try and enjoy my life to the fullest, which means no fear. I do have some anxiety right now about this, a lot actually, but I know it will pass and I am going to be proactive about eliminating it with meditation, yoga, binaural beats and exercise, as well as lots of relationship stuff like cuddling, massages, and calling or emailing friends or family, as well as religious practice like church attendance.
I am strictly NOT using any alcohol or gaba drugs, because I don't want to exacerbate anxiety in the long run.
Thanks for weighing in people. I hope you have learned a bit about this and I hope it won't effect any of us at all.
I pray that this will be averted, not occur, or happen in the far future.
But the estimates seem to say it will happen in about 100 years and maybe less. But whether that means that is when it will "start" or if it means that will already be a huge global catastrophe I don't know.
I hope it wont be an instant or like rapid thing that occurs to its deadly conclusion in years or months but rather a process that takes 200 years to really heat up. But I am truly afraid this will be a truly ABRUPT incident.
Anyways, I am going to stop thinking about this now because there is nothing else I can do other then what I am doing.
I am choosing to bury my head in the sand and stop thinking about any scary possibilities or occurences and live in my own bubble of happiness for as long as I can, and enjoy every second of it, while preparing steadily for the rest of my life and attaining inner peace.
Be well friends.
Hug your family!

Look at that, another thread where moonshoe attempts to justify his survival kit purchases
Do you really thing the world coming to a catastrophe for the majority of the population is "the worst news ever"?
I think many would initially find excitement in this return to the primitive. Daily life is a crisis, the dull grind of an office pencil pusher, the routine trip to the grocer only to see the same old face behind the counter. The slow climb up the economic ladder, for an extra large Christmas tree this year. Maybe mom won't have to work overtime to buy diapers, maybe dads back will stop being beat down at the construction site. Trading time for money, the majority of us are. And money never buys enough, for there isn't enough in the tangible sense. Relief comes from the unseen.
For many, a crisis would be a welcome event. I suspect you're one of those people. The subject clearly excites you. The sad truth is that the crisis is already taking place, and it isn't any sort of "global catastrophe" in the tangible sense. It's the lack of a purpose. Every day and every night, we walk along our predetermined paths. Treading forward and breeding without true cause or say in the matter. We sit on a sphere rotating fast enough that if it stopped we would all die, receiving all of our inertia and energy from a ball of gas that would vaporize us on contact.

My fear is that this wont be a disaster just for humans that I could see some benefit for, but a mass extinction for all life on earth. The last time this happened 80% of life on earth died. But I don't want to think about this anymore, and I am going to focus on inner peace.

Saying that everybody literally dying wouldn't be "the worst news ever" is something that only a future heroin addict would say MM

koods said: Scientists have known about this feedback loop for long time. Essentially, if CO2 warms us to a certain point where the methane releases become large enough that methane becomes the more influential greenhouse gas and the warming causes more and more methane to be released. This causes runaway heating.
Honestly, I think this is inevitable. Global temps this year are record shattering by a huge margin. Solar minimum is over and things are really accelerating this new solar cycle.
what exactly is a huge margin, could it be like .02 degrees?

No one is predicting all life dying, even if things go that bad. No one but moon of course. If 50% of humanity dies, it would give us some breathing room. If 90% dies, it means the strong survived, the weak genes that we've been coddling get eliminated and the race is 10x stronger. No more insulin, hemophilia drugs or other things to keep alive the weak and let them reproduce. The result will be a race stronger and wiser having learned from our previous mistakes. It sounds like a good thing and since it won't bother me in this life, let it be.
-------------------- “A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.” (attributed to Alexis de Tocqueville political philosopher Circa 1835) Trade list http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/18047755

Physically speaking I've never had even a minor health issue and can survive on either basically no food or any food and stay the same weight regardless because my metabolism adapts extremely efficiently in my observation. I have boundless energy no matter what. I never get sick and my lungs and cardiovascular system are perfect especially when you consider I have no fat to weigh me down and put unnecessary stress on my body
I think I am good
