Is this an edible?
    #22435302 - 10/26/15 09:57 AM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Habitat:
Where does it grow? Eastern Iowa, in my front lawn between a white birch, and a honey locust
Gills:The gills are similar in color to the stem and top, white

Stem:The stem was about 4" long, a little larger around than a standard sharpie pen, white, woody and solid.

Cap:The cap was about 4-5" across, white with brown bark like texture, and had strips pealing like birch bark, conical and convexed.

Spore print color: I know the spore print is important, but the pictures and mushrooms are now gone(they mowed the lawn), and I did not know that it was important for posting until later, sorry!

Bruising:there did not appear to be any noticeable bruising while I had possession of the mushrooms.

Other information: The smell seemed not unpleasant, similar to my growing oysters.

Most likely it is a poisonous: Chlorophyllum molybdites. The green spore print color would clinch it. The other Chlorophyllum species have white spores, more pronounced bruising and often different habitat.

Thanks. I'll keep picking and throwing them in the trash then, keeping them from the grand-kids.
