It should be in the dark. A little light a day wont hurt but cover it.

Doesn't really matter, but too much light and it might pin early inside the jar before it's completely colonized.

Colonization should be done in total darkness. It will actually colonize with light, probably a little bit slower but chances of invitro pins are what you don't want.

Just cover em..

.fs.

they should be in the dark, or better yet, a dark incubator.

That's how much light my casings recieve when I fruit them.

Zulu:  I highly recomend you at least drape and opaque cloth over them.  You can never be too safe.

Definitely cover them, and you should put them somewhere warmer, unless your room is in the 80's. They'll colonize much faster.

Pinning can be initiated by only miliseconds of light once adequate substrate is colonized. So the less often they're exposed, the less chance of premature pinning there will be.

in regard to this, ya know whats really weird, in my last attempt which failed, when my jars weren't growing after about a month I took them out, screwed the lids on tight, set them on the counter and a few days later they were growing better than in the incubator. One jar didn't even show signs of growth until i took it out of the incubator, weird eh? i was actually thinking about maybe lighting up my incubator when they're almost colonized or after i do the casing maybe putting them in the incubator with a light, what do you all think?
