* Habitat What kind of trees were nearby? What was it growing from? Growing in the middle of a fallen dead tree's branches with a bunch of leaves and pine needles. Not sure what kind, but leaf litter is visible in pics. * Location Where in the world was it? Central New Jersey, USA, 25 Oct 2015 * Gills What do they look like? Always try to take photos that show the gills of both young and mature mushrooms. White, detached, dense. Typical Amanita-looking white gills. You can see a little in the picture, if you look carefully past the veil. * Stem Carefully dig it out of the ground so you can get a picture of the whole thing. Yup. Cottony fringes on stipe, but not really rings... see pic.. * Spore print color (if you have time). Will print on request. * Scent of the mushroom. Yummy mushroomy * Color that the mushroom bruises when damaged. No bruising noted * Anything else you might find important. - Veil present. - Obvious warts on cap. - Some slug eaten. - Small rhizomes extending from bulb at bottom. - Interesting orange color. - Nibble test: tasty mushroom! Not at all bitter or funky in any way. - After handling the fungus, my fingertips feel a little different; hard to explain, almost as if I got a bit of bleach on them--know how your fingertips feel slippery and the dry afterward?
From 50 feet away, at first glance, without my contact lenses, I thought that I'd stumbled into a mother load of Gyms! Then, I thought that they might be an orange (American) version of Caesar's, but, alas, no cuplike structure. So, before I make stuffed mushrooms, I figured I'd better check with the gurus.

It's definitely in the genus amanita. not sure what species, but some of the redder ones look like they could be an A. Muscaria variant. Do NOT take my word on that though. wait for a T.I.

Amanita muscaria var. guessowii or maybe persicina but i can't see any changing to a peach hue.
-------------------- I give you the choice of 2 pills.
With each containing one of the following: Cyanide... Psilocin... Would you take the risk? Didn't think so. This is why Positive Identification prior to consumption is important.
