Missouri Gymnopilus?
    #22432591 - 10/25/15 04:25 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Think I got 'em this time!

Habitat:
shady area, growing out of the base of a hardwood tree (didn't check the type of tree.) The bark behind the mushroom patch had become hollow underneath, so i used my bic lighter to punch out the surrounding bark and grabbed out the whole patch.

[/url]

These are some of the small shrooms showing "bluing"

Gills:
tannish to yellowish, rusty orange spores EVERYWHERE. a lot of them seem too mangled (naturally) to get a spore print from. Considering the amount of spores on the caps and other parts of the mushrooms, is a spore print necessary?

Stem:
3-9 inches long, thicker than my thumb in some cases. the stems are solid and fibrous, though after breaking them a bit they begin to look somewhat hollow. some stems are fatter than caps when the mushrooms are spaced out, but long and stretching when in clumps.

Cap:
2-4 inches wide, tan-yellow, many covered in red-orange spores.

Spore print color:
Rusty red-orange

Bruising:
Just a light blue green tint (more of just a green), that seemed to become more noticeable after an hour or so. It's only noticeable on a few of the smaller mushroom stems, mostly toward the base (I tried to get a picture, but my fucking camera won't really pick it up well.) But it's definitely there. Though, due to my inexperience, I could very well be mistaking a grass stain or something for bruising. A couple of the medium-sized shrooms have tiny tinges on the cap, but even my eyes are barely picking those up.

Other information:
Smells like some fire edible mushrooms, yet more sharp, if that makes any sense.

That's what i'm hoping for.  I almost thought they were just ringless honey mushrooms and passed them by! The bulbous (I think that's the word) stems though made me pick them up and look further.

Just to be safe, I'd like to wait for a TI. Can anybody give me any tips on cleaning these fuggers off? If I do it all by hand, I'm gonna end up spending more time cleaning them than tripping on them!

Sorry to post on this again, but people I've talked to have gotten me paranoid about eating these. They definitely don't resemble anything poisonous that might grow in Missouri, right? I seen the blue-green bruising myself, so I don't know why i'm so worried...

 Go for it. Start with something small and wait a few hours to see if it upsets your stomach if it makes you feel better.  I did that with my first find I drank a cup of Tea and waited an hour, 45mins in I noticed the perception change and knew they were the real deal and went all in.  It did ease the anxiety. Have fun.

Right on.  I ended up getting over the paranoia and dosing about 4.25g (started with 4.5, but I gagged on a bigger pinch and ended up spitting it out, haha.) I got the warm, rubbery feeling, and time was a little weird for a while. Then, I had a couple beers offered to me, which really mixed well with such a low dose. Made for a great Halloween :oogieboogie:  Thanks again, everyone!
