A lot of people have done tons of comparisons. With hpoo, i only add vem and gyp. It's already so fibrous, i don't think it needs straw. Cpoo is more like dirt when dry and mud when wet, so i definitely mix either coir or straw with it

After letting the log settle for a couple hours I used my exacto knife to cut 1 inch "x's" spaced about every 4 inches. After I finished I was extremely paranoid that the holes were too large and the log would surely contaminate, however the areas near the holes are colonizing as well as those that are not.

tetherface said: right on that's basically what ive come up with I only had marginal success with 100% straw but as a supplement/ingredient in my bulk subs it has worked wonders and cut my costs way down almost in half I usually prep 2 monotubs at a time but use the standard bucket tek recipe (650g C/2qt V/1c G) meanwhile I fill an onion bag full of straw and pasteurize in hot water for 70 minutes. then I mix them in a big 110qt tote and divide them into 2 tubs and spawn ive been toying around with worm castings lately and they seem to be a good supplement but a pain to work with(shitty texture) and quite expensive TBH I think I was getting better results with bagged store manure than the WC at 1/20th the price but ive only fruited 2WC tubs so im still undecided . OP what poo do you use horse?
Since using straw I have almost completely eliminated my cost per grow. I'm still chipping away at the 3 cubic yards of compressed peat I bought a year ago haha. And Luckily I have a farmer in the family so my access to hpoo and straw is basically unlimited. Worm castings are my next project. I will be buildings several worm composters just to have a way to dispose of my spent substrates.

I mostly add straw to spread out my manure supply, not so much for texture. As far as cow poo goes, are you using the commercial bagged garbage? I have had terrible luck with feedlot manure. My hope is that the manure from primarily grass feed cows will be more fibrous.

And to anybody with experience with straw logs. Is it necessary to fruit in some kind of fc? The original tek I read led me to believe I could fruit it directly in the plastic tube. Input?
