Canada: Hells Angels members protest legalization of marijuana

So they took over Parliament Hill yesterday to protest lol
Quote:
OTTAWA | As Canada’s newly elected Liberal government is on the verge of legalizing marijuana, thousands of Hells Angels members have taken the Parliament by storm yesterday to protest the new proposition.
The legalization of marijuana could cost the organized crime hundreds of thousands of jobs, believes the spokesman for the Canadian chapter of the Hells Angels, Jean-Roch Fournier.
“We estimate that Prime minister Justin Trudeau’s radical proposition to legalize marijuana could cost us over a hundred thousand jobs” says the former lawyer. “From growing operations, to trimming, packaging, transportation and selling, this new legislature will threaten the livelihood of hundreds of thousands of Canadian workers” he warns.
A multi-billion dollar industry
The legalization of marijuana could bring in between 5 to 12 billion dollars to the Canadian economy each year, reveals a recent 2014 joint study by the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University.
“Our research suggests more than 7,366,000 people in Canada use pot and we estimate the Canadian pot industry is worth between $5 billion and $12 billion a year, depending on suggested prices” explains Economics professor, Zahir Mahalik.
“Our study evaluated not only the legalization of cannabis on a recreational use basis but also for its inherit potential in the medical and pharmaceutical business, which explains the high numbers” he acknowledged. “It is obvious the legalization of marijuana will cause major profit losses to organized crime organizations nation-wide” he told local reporters.
A massive blow to organized crime
Many members of organized crime fear they will lose their way of life if legalization is implemented.
“I’ve been selling weed since I’m 12 years old” admits Gino Ouellet, aged 56 and Hells Angels member for the past 36 years. “Do you think I’m going to want to go work at Wal-Mart or McDonalds at minimal wage? I don’t think so” he told reporters.
“Who’s going to want to give me a job? I’ve got tattoos all over my body and all over my face” asks another protester, Bob Wilkinson, condemned in 1977 for triple homicide. “It’s not the job of the federal government to regulate illegal drugs, they should take care of their own business and leave that to us” he argues.
If marijuana were legalized in Canada, it would be a first among developed nations. In the US, four states and Washington, DC, have legalized pot, but it is still illegal at the federal level.
Thoughts?
(Yes, of course, it's fake news)

In all seriousness I get my LSD from a guy whose primary business is selling weed. He either is going to quit or move to cocaine/meth/heroin/pills. I don't think are enough hard drug users for all the pot dealers to switch over. Plus my pot dealer is pretty soft I don't think he's cut out for the hard drug business. I wonder what his resume will look like after 25 years of just selling weed? I am going to advise him to look into the legal weed business.

The fact that they are protesting makes things very evident that with legal weed dealers go outta business.

How are they gonna beat dealers tho? I just got a 600$ lb of fresh outdoor .with all the tax and stuff it's evident that they won't be making that price. It's gonna be hella expensive
Only way I see them break the black market is let everybody grow plus having weed as cheap as tomatoes. Which it should be. But I doubt that .

Do you get your alcohol from black market? Do you have a moonshine dealer? I predict growing your own will be about as popular as home brewing. Some people do it but it's a tiny percent of the market. Outdoor SHOULD be hella cheap, there is no reason it can't be even with taxes. Should be outdoor is cheapest followed by greenhouse with indoor the most expensive. How much does it really cost to grow a pound outdoors? Probably not very much, probably less than it costs to grow tomatoes in that same space and they don't sell for 500 a pound.

Well, in Oregon where you can grow your own legally with no red tape many many people do so
And it's not hard to match dealers. Businesses in Washington still manage to sell fairly cheap weed with high taxes, and in Oregon where it's much less taxed its about equal with the middle range of what you'd find in the black market. Albeit not as good deals as the cheapest stuff out there - but that doesn't matter, its the sheer convenience, experience, and awesomeness of walking into a weed store with 30 strains to pick from that makes the model really awesome and work. People -WANT- to buy their weed legally. It's just so easy it's pretty much put a huge dent in all black market cannabis sales... they either go legit or sell out of state.

Could you accomplish an outdoor grow in your 2 week growing season?
What about hemp seed oil farmers though, wouldn't they fuck up any attempt at growing oudside? wouldn't even an 'under light grow op' be difficult without some elaborate screening from wind-borne pollen? I guess it would be a race between your 'weed' grow ripening, and the hemp farmers (males, or self pollinators) flowering. Edit: or growing your weed in the winter months, which, I assume, would add to the cost.
I wonder if this is a way of ensuring only large scale growers can enter the 'weed' growing market, the expence of setting up pollen free indoor gowing areas being cost prohibitive. Thoughts.
edit. 'twighead', do they grow hemp up there in Oregon yet?

I think it seems likely that they would want to tax it to the point where prices were comparable to what they are now.
