is a beard oil really necessary?

First time I have read of such thing as a beard oil. I'm usually clean shaven but I do look better as I was told with some scruff as well. So I'm curious has anyone here ever used a beard oil? I would assume it's like a shampoo for the beard of sort. I would think washing face with just soap isn't much. Or an aftershave is just too plain.

I would no think so; have never heard of it myself, either, but there are natural oils in the beard and hair..

its probably a basic oil you could make yourself for 1/50th the price of a bottled beard oil.
olive oil and mint... good enough haha

No its not necessary. But most shampoos and soaps can be quite harsh on delicate facial skin. So it can help to aleviate beard itch. It can also help soften and condition a beard, and smells nice.
So while it isn't necessary by any means, it is a nice luxury. I think of it kind of like aftershave for bearded people. Not something you need, but makes things just that little bit nicer.

There's a store in my town that specializes in organic soaps and refillable bath goodies. One of the things they sell is argan oil that you can custom scent. Good for hair/beards/pubes. Basically it makes your hair really soft and manageable and amazing smelling.
If it smells good it's a total babe magnet.

Aftershaves I think are alcohol based and is meant to even out the skin from bearded to shaven. After shave is for AFTER SHAVE. Beard oil is for BEARD, if you plan to maintain one.

No man oil is not necessary. But I like to add some Moroccan oil when my beard is feeling really prickly. It really does help soften the beard if you
routinely apply it. Personally I only use a bar of baby soap for washing my face and beard. I don't like having all those chemicals on my face and I've noticed
that my beard stays softer now with no oil. I am not washing away all my skins natural oil now using a light bar soap.

Ok where do I get this baby soap from? What's the name/brand?
Is this Moroccan oil called Argan oil?

I use beard oil like twice a week as it really helps with irritation. Especially during the cold and dry winter months.

Yup thats the oil I use. There are different brands now I think the last one I got was by garnier or something. The baby soap is just a johnson and johnson bar soap. Get it anywhere usually by all the baby stuff.

shampoo and conditioner work well on a beard for some people. they type of shampoo and conditioner sometimes make a difference as to how well they work per individual.

I wish I could grow a beard. Instead all I can grow is facial hair. Its not a real beard. Maybe I should start taking tongkat ali or something. I don't have much chest hair either. And I have a random long hair growing out of my shoulder. What the fuck.

I'm using a home made concoction of olive oil infused with plantain and orange thyme and added a little lemon oil. Seems to work pretty good at staving off the dry. I dont use soap as most will strip your natural oils. Chlorine water seems to do that well enough for me

would a tweazer pull out my random shoulder hair and make it go away for good? I also have upper back/lower back neck hair growing as if "wild" since I have no hairy back. I have chest hair. I don't like it. Not too hairy but I guess this is masculine huh? I can grow a beard if necessary.

I can't find any baby soap bar but all are in liquid form so I'm trying it out. It was said it isn't as "harsh" but I see the ingredients are just as chemical as any soap bars.
