Did anyone catch Saturn last night?
    #2213699 - 01/01/04 06:07 PM (20 years, 2 months ago)

A beautiful sight! It was in opposition last night, and its rings were visible in an oblique view...you could even see two of the major divisions in the rings. Supposed to be the closest it will be until 2034 (I believe), and was clearly visible even with a small cheap 'scope. Should still be a great view tonight...about 12 midnight Eastern time, just to the upper left of Orion in the southern sky...check it out...

damn it, i wanted to catch that...

I happened to catch venus the other day completly on accident, was driving home and saw a bright one, fired up kstars when i got home and found out venus was out.

If anyone ever gives linux a try you gotta check out kstars, its awsome. You can have it spit out a chart of eveything that should be visable from your location in the world at any givin time, along with providing ALL TYPES of information about the object. The andromida galaxy was out that night too, but I couldnt see it. If youve got a computerized scope it will also interface with it and position you on things. Great software...

Just fired it up again, and jupiter and saturn both should be visible from the chicago area tonight (1/3/4) too bad i cant see a single thing in the sky from where im at, damn pollution...

Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.
