is that uncased? it doesn't look fully colonized.  i'm guessing dirty spawn.

Imma go out on a limb here and say it has less to do with the coir and more to do with genetics, environment, and clean spawn

or moisture content. bulk subs that are far too wet don't fully colonize. or far too dry for that matter. things need to be "just right".

Sometimes it happens man. Work with a clone or isolate, if you keep the environmental stuff in check it should be pretty consistent

Oh well that might have something to do with it
Was it refrigerated at least?

Have you tested the clone before? You never know till you test!

I feel your pain bro. My substrate just needed more water before it shot dicks out all over the place.

Exactly. Proper field capacity is a very important step, and one that is often overlooked. I wish there were more detailed teks demonstrating the process. Sometimes it's hard to know exactly how much water to squeeze out.

I usually squeeze the mix till only a few drops pool up around my knuckles, as shown in one of RR's videos, but my tubs always end up on the dry side and I see a lot of colonization issues. I guess it just takes a bit of trial and error...
