first run with cardboard spawn
    #22428355 - 10/24/15 05:28 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

So far, the H. ulmarius grain spawn to cardboard went over well. I didn't even boil or sterilize anything, just wore gloves and cleaned the inside of the plastic tote well with alcohol. I didn't even place it in the corrugated layer. I used half of it to stack totems of fresh oak, and placed those in loose-fitting black plastic trash bags in a basement on a palate. In 3 months I'll shuffle them to get all of the cut sides inoculated and put them out in April.

My question is this: Since I'm now tempted to expand out my Stropharia and pleurotus for use in spring (in WI, and we're headed for hard freeZes), I'm wondering how long cardboard spawn might keep as long as I keep expanding with more cardboard. Also, is it just as easy to expand mycelium into sawdust the same way, in a breathable tote, in non-sterile indoor conditions from grain or sawdust spawn? Thanks for any input. Advice is appreciated

You can slow the growth and preserve the mycelium by putting it into a test tube and then storing it in a fridge. :goodluck:
