Is this a Gymnopilus?
    #22427828 - 10/24/15 03:32 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Today I went on my second shroom hunt ever, and I found five or so mushrooms, none of which I could identify as psychedelic... save this little guy:

Is this a Gymnopilus Luteus?

Habitat:
Southeastern PA, Woodland area, found underneath a decaying log (probably hardwood).

Gills:
White, very thin, and close.

Stem:
White, short, with swollen base (there's also a little flap at the top of the stem where it would meet with the cap?  I think this is common of Luteus).

Cap:
Whitish-yellow, dome shaped, dry.

Spore print color:
Pale yellow.

Bruising:
No evident bruising.

Nope, sorry to say not even close. This is an Amanita species, going by that sack-like volva at the bottom of the stem it's potentially lethal species.

Edit: Spelling mistake corrected.

Haha, thanks for letting me know!  I'll go out hunting the next time it rains and see what I can find...
