Does it look like it's contaminated?
    #22427795 - 10/24/15 03:25 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Hello, I'm new on Shroomery and also it's my first time growing.

So, it has been 4 days since i started, i got a shroom cake that is 100% mycelium of B+.
it's inside a small greenhouse with water and a water heater giving me 24-25°and a humidity of 98-99%

The second day i noticed a small green dot on it and now the whole cake looks like this, also today i noticed the yellowish spot on the middle, i don't know if this is wrong or not so i'd like someone who knows to help me.

Thank you!

Looks like non sporulating trich. It might go green.

Doesn't look healthy. You're probably going to have some mold sporulation on your hands real soon.

I'd personally toss it. I don't want to up the spore load in my home just for a few fruits.

If you were never planing to grow again you could try fruiting it I guess... but I hope you plan to keep growing.

Where do you think you went wrong?

Let it fruit. Any fruits you get are edible as long as they're not directly moldy or rotten.

If it starts to sporulate, I'd put it outside to finish if it's not too cold where you are. You don't want to fill your home with mold spores if you plan to grow more in the future.

If that's a grow kit, that's part of where you went wrong. Starting from scratch allows you control over everything. Relying on others to do the work for you doesn't always have the best outcome.

I guess you're right, next time i won't be buying a kit then!

And how do i know that it started to sporulate?

Thank you for your advice

You're welcome.

If it starts to turn green/black/blue/orange then those are spores from a mold.

As of the 2nd picture you posted, I'm not so sure you have mold. It doesn't look healthy though, but it is indeed fruiting. Keep misting, keep up fresh air, and good luck on this flush.

It will be must more rewarding when you grow your first flush from scratch.

Welcome here, to the shroomery.

Possibly overlay? I can't tell if it is cased or not...

It's not cased, it's a grow kit.

I'm not sure overlay really exists with cubes. I know RR felt it didn't, or at least it was very very rare for cubes.

It does; it isn't rare either. I've seen it dozens of times.

Yeah, I'm not sure then if I don't know the composition.

They look good, almost ready to pick. Technically the right side is ready.

What is that tub of water they're sitting in? Was that part of the grow kit?

You should take some spore prints!

I already picked a few that were hitting against the plastic of the green house!
Do you think they are okay?
(Some of them weren't hitting the plastic but were attached to the ones that were)

Spore prints? Sounds interesting i might try!

After i'm done with this flush i will post a picture here of the empty ground so you can check if it belongs to the trash or i can still get more, i won't mind throwing it since i'm happy with what i already have now:grin::grin:

And about the water thing... It's the bottom of the green house, i had to fill it with water to install a water heater that gave me 24-25° and a high humidity since now it's kinda cold where i live  is that bad or na?

Do it. You'll regret it if you don't. It's nice to look back and have some prints from your first grow.

Hey, when i picked them i quickly put them on the web and had a fan blowing on them 24hours everyday since, in 2 days silice gel will arrive so i can finish with drying.
Do they look okay?
Is there something wrong with them?
Do you think they will survive this time till i get the silice?

(I won't turn off the fan till i put them somewhere with silice)

Thanks

They look fine..

You want to get them dried as fast as possible, and out of oxygen exposure as fast as possible. Letting them sit out for days on end with air blowing on them is not a good thing at all, but they'll probably be okay... hopefully. I'd hate to see them lose all their potency, but I'm not sure how much of an issue this can be.

Go to the store and buy a food dehydrator, is my advice.

Now that they're half dried, more or less, can i just put them in a jar in a dark and cool closet or something till i get the silice in 2 days?

I will get a food dehydrator next time i'm growing for sure!

Yeah, if they're dried out you can jar them up til you get the silica to finish them off.

You could also use a desiccant...

No heat and it is cheaper than a food dehydrator.

Throw used desiccant in the oven or even nuke it to dry it out and reuse...

Damp Rid works great, in an airtight box with mushrooms suspended over it, not touching.

(i.e. with a plastic screen or cheesecloth, etc)

Dry it out at first too, just in case.

Hey, i have another question:

It's been like 1 day, 16 hours ago since i stopped the fan and threw them in a jar and today, as soon as i opened the jar i noticed a not really pleasant smell, they are not as dry as when i put them into the jar, they are now in a drying chamber with silice, do you think the smell is weird or it's a normal thing?

I didn't really see anything weird with them, just the smell and that they're no longer as hard as after the fan and i hope that's normal...

Thanks

They'll be fine to eat, I imagine. Less than fully dried cubes can smell pretty awful, but I've eaten them before quite a few times and I'm still kicking around.

Awesome!

Do you think they have less potency, having in mind that i had them out with oxygen and a fan blowing on them for some days?

So now i just keep them there and check if the silice changes color and check if they're cracker dry right? When they are fully dried, Can just put them in a glass jar in a cool and dark place and i'll be good or should i have some silice there too? Also, as long as the silice is good(doesn't change color) i can keep them there in the chamber or not? i think that way they would have less chance to rot or get bad, but i don't really know.

And thank you very much again! I was worried they have gone bad or something

Hard to say about the potency.

Just eat a boat load to make sure.

When you store them, store them with some silica just to be safe. Most silica can be "recharged" in the stove by baking it.

don't know, can't smell them o.O

what kind of smell

they will be fairly hygroscopic once partially reconstituted due to osmosis

i think bacteria will generally be the first problem

to tell if they are completely dry, the stem should crack if you bend it

Also, 4grams should be enough for a "lvl 4" trip or not?

Hard to say, cubes vary in potency and everyone's tolerance to the chemicals are different.

How much do you usually take?

And do you think 4g would be a good dose to know more or less the potency of the shrooms?
if it isn't very potent how much time after ingestion should i wait to eat some more?
