Holiday Cactus
    #22427367 - 10/24/15 01:48 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Finally got some christmas and easter cactus cuttings from my friend! I can't wait to have a bundle flowering.

Any tips for a rookie? I'm also curious if there are any other cacti named after holidays? Like halloween cactus or new years cactus

Xmas cactus were some of my first flowers, I just added another color recently to my plant for some variety, we will see.

My only word of advice, mine sunburns easily, so I keep it out of direct sun.  Do you know what color they should be or are you waiting for the surprise?

I'm waiting to see what color they come out as. I kinda am hoping for one of them to turn out white and the other red.

Thanks for the tip! I know they dry out easily but i wasn't sure how much light they like.

I put them in my martha at night to help with forming adventitious roots and new shoots and they seem to like it a lot along with drying out some during the day and getting partial sun.

Do you fertilize them with anything special or a regular low-nitrogen cactus fertilizer?

Not a thing, I just bought some fert to start using on my plants after the winter here.  Some of my plants will turn green again after a burn, but this plant is permanently red....seems ok now that I have it in partial shade though, but since I was on vacation I have no idea if it flowered.
