State level? Federal level? Medicinal? That would be very cool.

If the feds decriminalize them that would be awesome. Decriminalize personal usage.

Seems pretty doubtful, what would be the reasoning behind it?

I heard psychedelics would be decriminalized after cannabis (medically) But who knows..
One things certain, they're definitely undergoing alot of extensive research.

Uh no way, lol. Why would the government suddenly decide to legalize a schedule 1 substance? That would be a historical first.
Look at what has happened with cannabis, after years of people protesting the laws and finally gaining enough support to get in on the ballots it has become legal in a couple of states but is still illegal at the federal level.
Maybe he means it might become schedule 2? That is possible, but totally legal, no way.

Cocaine and heroin will be legal before shrooms. Every so often someone freaks out bad on shrooms and the media coverage is relentless. They love those "naked man on mushrooms steals boat to escape from aliens and leads cops on 1 hour chase". It doesn't matter if there are 10000 peaceful trips for every freak out, its the freak outs that get noticed.

No, you can't blame the substance, but the general population consists of a bunch of ignorant fucks. Expecting logical thought is like expecting a rock to grow legs and walk away.

It's more likely that if anything is done at all it will be less severe punishment for possession. The felony possession becoming an infraction or more likely a misdemeanor. I also doubt that it would be just mushrooms because a change like that would be pushed by groups seeking medical help for drug users instead of incarceration.
We are far off from legalization of mushrooms, although one can dream

How high up is this friend--or should I say:"High on what?"
No matter. He is talking though his hat.

I definitely feel like people have spent so much time campaigning for legal weed and nobody has even touched mushrooms. But I do feel that with all the changes happening out west that decriminalization of mushrooms would be next logically.
Doubt legalization thoughn

I think part of the reason no one has spent time on trying to legalize mushrooms is because weed is actually something that is a lot more important to legalize for a lot of reasons. The market for weed is just so much larger than mushrooms, not only because it has a much larger user base but also because weed is something people tend to buy quite often. How many people do you know who buy mushrooms every week?
So having weed illegal creates a lot of problems, tons and tons of stupid court cases conjesting the criminal justice system with waning public support, lots of profit for dealers and drug cartels, very inconsistent policy with alcohol and tobacco legal, etc.
Now mushrooms on the other hand, are more of an underground, personal hobbyist, hippie type thing. Sure, a lot of mainstream people have done mushrooms but generally those type of folks don't use them particularly often or in particularly high doses. The black market for mushrooms is a lot smaller and those of us who really want them can often grow enough for ourselves without needing expensive lighting, lots of space, etc. So we don't really even need them legalized as long as the government lets us fly under the radar.
Why exactly they do this, I don't quite understand. I mean, the DEA isn't stupid. They can obviously use a computer and find websites like the shroomery, but for some reason they haven't pushed to make the spores illegal even though legal spores is an ENOURMOUS loophole which allows virtually anyone to easily produce a schedule substance. If they wanted to, they could totally get rid of the spores just like they banned just about every chemical you can use to make methamphetamine.
ANother example is San Pedro. It makes absolutely no logical sense to lock people up for peyote but allow anyone to buy San Pedro on friggin' ebay. But for whatever reason, the DEA seems content to let us hippies have this cactus.
You see what I mean? I actually respect the DEA for their attitude about these things. Perhaps they understand that the small time hippie/hobbyist who grows mushrooms or Pedro for personal use and their friends doesn't present a major threat to society and for that reason they don't bother us.

I get what you're saying, they are pretty available and if you keep your mouth shut and keep it to personal use the DEA probably could give a shit about it. Right now we live in the golden age of psychedelics, you can get anything you want relatively easily vs past decades.
We are privileged to have cubes and all these great exotics so available to us, unlike 60s and 70s.
But I would feel a whole lot better if it was decriminalized. Mistakes happen, people get caught and the charge for growing mushrooms is really mean. Pretty nasty charge.
