Request: Embedded Flash Plugin 1

Is it possible that any embedded videos which require flash player would be displayed as just a mere link instead of embedding themselves as they currently do? I do not have flash player installed so I can neither watch any videos or easily get an link that I can use in combination with youtube-dl. Thanks!

Yeah, adding an option to display flash videos as URLs would be pretty great.
I've seen multiple people complain about not being able to watch videos here, specifically on mobile, this would be a good way to fix that problem.

Bump, any chance this could be implemented? I would really appreciate a yes or no.
The videos won't play even with lightspark-git (Which I need for school...).

Any chance of a reply?
It sucks a lot not being able to view other people's video links when they pertain to the discussion at hand.

Dammit emf, you're such a Debby Downer. You know you aren't qualified to respond to feature requests right?
Byrain, I recently updated the Youtube embed code so it uses the modern HTML5 iframe player instead of Flash. It should no longer require Flash and should work in any modern browser by default. Have you tried it recently?

Nobody is as qualified as I am. I also tried to explain that this stuff is working just fine, but Byrain's brain is too far gone at this point. My shroomery video experience was top notch the whole time though, so at least there's that.

Thank you!
I've been waiting for that, I figured you'd do it soon.
Now it works on mobile!

I appreciate this, but I have just tested again and my browser (firefox 45.0.1) is convinced that that the plugin is still associated with flash and as is noscript. Nevertheless even if I allow everything the video won't start. probably lightspark is just not up to it.
You could try to make it work more, but I would figure allowing some users to just see a plain text link would be easier. Or a more elegant solution would be to add shroomery support to youtube-dl, but I unfortunately can't write in python...
This is being tested in Slackware64-current.

I believe you, but we are using the current recommended embed code provided by Youtube. If you pull up the network inspector with F12 in your browser, or just view source on a page with an embedded video, you can see that it's loading the correct URL. If it's still defaulting to the Flash player in your browser, you might have a codec or configuration problem... could you please check https://www.youtube.com/html5 and ensure it says "the HTML5 player is currently used when possible"? I don't want to add a workaround for a problem if either a) it can be fixed properly on our end or b) it's on your end, not ours. Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience!

Okay, you're right. The network inspector indicates html5 and it works with firefox in safemode. It was noscript and the firefox visual indicator that are wrong. It must be my insane combination of add-ons causing problem even after much tedium with getting everything enabled... Which is part of the reason I like youtube-dl, but I do realize I am a niche use case.
I will play with this more later and see if I can make it works with my add-ons, thanks for your responses.
