Tray colonizing from top down: I have an idea
    #22426337 - 10/24/15 09:21 AM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Let's say you have a couple trays (coir+verm) spawned with WBS that seem to only be colonizing from the top down. You suspect that maybe the moisture content in the sub was too high, and so as water began to settle in the sub that's made it harder for the lower portions to colonize.

What if you flipped the trays over in order to possibly let the extra moisture (assuming that was the problem) percolate back down through the colonized portion and dry up the uncolonized portion a little?

Well, I figured what the heck. Someone feel free to tell me if this is a terrible idea.

 never tried it. If the sides shrink you'd be kinda screwed..

Generally the bottom being wet can't be fixed. Bacteria takes hold

Mad Season, what do you mean? The sides shrink anyway.

Is this your first grow? The substrate will shrink as the mycelium digests the nutrients and the mushrooms get formed. It will shrink away from the walls, and if you don't keep the surface's moisture level perfect, you'll get a ton of side pins (due to the microclimate made from the wall being so close).
