Growing Panaeolus Cyanescens
    #22426336 - 10/24/15 09:20 AM (8 years, 3 months ago)

We are doing some research on growing Panaeolus Cyanescens and it appears they will not grow in the jars that contain rye (Midwest G.K.) mixtures. Does anyone know of an easy way to grow them, if you know of a link we would appreciate it. We are looking for the most updated info on this subject we can find.  Thanks

:lolwut: pan cyan grows in rye no probs..

Also wbs, millet, wheat, oats, and all the other spawn used for cubes. Some say they're faster. Others say they're slower on grains, but they definitely colonize spawn.

You can grow those spores on an agar plate first to get clean growth, then transfer a small wedge to your sterilized grain jars for much faster growth, as opposed to shooting MS solution in there (which usually takes a long time to germinate).

If you still want to use a syringe (as I do) you can grow out your spores/clone on agar and then when colonized make a liquid inoculant.  That's squirting sterilized water onto the agar in a SAB and swishing and pulling the mycelium laden water back into the syringe.

Many ways to skin a cat.

Ive heard that if you  want proper growing performance, gotta have a horse or cow dung substrate at the fruit stage.

Spawning to grain is fine, but for fruiting, gotta have that poo in there.

Awesome thread, look forward to trying it out!

Do you not pasteurize?

it is also my understanding that pans don't fruit very well on anything other then manure.

is that wrong?

Pans have been grown on straight grains before. Both myself and Mudafuka did them with v tek with decent results. Stro did em with coir straw and worm castings. BREEDERS did an amazing pan cambo grow off cased rye. Poo helps but ain't mandatory.

What tek? You need to pasteurize if your going to spawn things like coffee, poo, straw, worm castings, etc in open air. If you colonize everything in sterile conditions then go ahead and sterilize. Coir and verm are the only things you can sterilize and then spawn in open air.

Straight grain can be more prone to mutant blobs with pans but given a proper consolidation, will fruit fine. Improper consolidation and a bit overlaid as well.

You need to sterilize those "poo jars" for 90 minutes at 15 psi, then inoculate with a LI or MS syringe, it's up to you. Overall, LI will be cleaner with faster growth rates, so I recommend going the extra mile and starting those spores out on agar first. :super:

Interesting :strokebeard:

And this mutant issue isnt the case with manure Substrate cause there is better consolidation with manure?

Its probably just like what happens if you don't properly consolidate cubes on brf or oversuppliment shiitake. Pans go real fast so on straight grain they do well to digest the nutes a bit. Manure has far less nutrition than grain does.

those blobs are edible though right?
if so, are they in any way different from the fruits?
i intend to dry and powder most of my shrooms...

The PP5 plastic containers used in the tek do not melt while in the PC. But if it makes you feel better, you can substitute them for glass jars (half pint wide mouth). The only downside is it'll have a little less surface area for fruiting.

They are PP5 (polypropylene) which can stand up to the heat as long as they don't touch the sides and bottom of the PC.  Look for plastic that is microwavable and dishwasher safe.  Most likely it will be PP5.
