Hello all! After much research, a friend and I decided to use a 24'X40' area of my garage to start a shroom farm! Id like advice on room size and and number of rooms for something like this, or a general rule to sizing rooms? Also any advice for the "been there, done or doing that" crowd on this topic would be great! It could easily expand to 60X40 once we get rolling. Thanks!

Hi Dave, nice garage! I'd do 8x8 or 10x10 rooms for each species you want to grow. maybe have an extra so you can totally sanitize one after each crop.

Dont forget about space for storing substrate materials, for incubation and for a walk-in-cooler.

Learn on a small to medium size scale before going all out. There is a lot more to mushrooms then growing them you need to market and distribute as well. Also make sure you are working with good genetics. I would start with one room and see how it goes and slowly expand. That also gives you more chances to design the rooms better than if you do it all at once. And it gives you a more realistic workload that slowly increases as your sales work up. You don't just sell 40 lbs in a week out of nowhere. It takes networking and a good sales pitch for repeat customers. Build a list of all your contacts to help you network better and make a faceboook page once you start selling.

Also grow a variety, as that attracts customers since they have a choice. And it gives you a better chance t. Make larger sales with each customer if they want to try multiple varieties. Also get or build a good dehydrator for fruits that aren't as appealing looking or won't be fresh enough for market or local sales.
