Calcium carbonate howto?

Hi Guys,
I've browsed many posts on calcium carbonate/gypsum on this forum, but I didn't find the answer to my question, on how to properly use it.
In the book "Psilocybin Mushroom Handbook - Easy Indoor and Outdoor Cultivation" by L. G Nicholas, Kerry Ogame there is a suggestion to add Calcium Carbonate to grain spawn (1 gram per 750ml jar, prior to sterilisation in the PC)
I did a comparison test - few jars with CC and few without. The grains in the inoculated jars with CC were visibly coated after shaking.
But - surprisingly, the cakes with CC coated grains gave significantly smaller crops.
Many threads on this forum suggest to add CC/gypsum in the process, so here is my questions:
- When and how much of CC/gypsum one should add to the grains?
- Did I make a mistake of adding CC after cooking, to drained grains, before sterilizing in PC?
RR suggested in some posts that gypsum is better, as it does not raise the pH level much.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions

i doubt the gypsum had anything to do with your results, hundreds of commercial farms use gypsum in everything from grain spawn to bulk subs to casing layers and on average find a 20% yield increase adn i doubt they do it because RR said it works Don't put too much thought into gypsum just chuck a handfull in a brick of coir pinch into soaking grains or whatever.

It doesn't matter what i think of you...all that matters is clean spawn I'm tired do me a favor

Yes, I'm sure that it was rather the method that failed, that's why I look for clarification
My guess is that CC coating the grains prevented mycelium from spreading efficiently. If I added CC when the grains were soaked, then probably it would have been absorbed rather than formed the coating.
Does that make sense?
