Where do the nutes come from? The agar or the potatoflakes/karo?

My first attempt at cloning, from a shiitake I bought at the grocery store. 5 of 6 plates look about like this, the other has a few white spots, and my control plate (that I just opened in my SAB, and moved around like I was pretending to cut a bit of mushroom for it), is clean so far.
I realize this is totally pedestrian to many of you, but I'm super excited.

Looks good man, don't mess around with it, wait 2-3 days until you see leap off and transfer to a new plate to prevent contams from popping up.

PF was said to have put non nutrient agar in his spore syringes, which kept spores evenly dispersed. If this is true it would show just how devoid of nutrients it is.
I was wondering how much agar you could get away with in a syringe, probably quite a bit as there is quite a bit of pressure when injecting it out. A ball bearing could be put in the syringe so you could mix up the spores. Obviously you don't want it to be solid.
I was thinking that thicker spore solution might be better as it would not tend to roll all over the plates if you tilt them, or if you squirt too much in the first place. If the thick spore solution is harder to squirt out it might be easier to control it and drop single drops/blobs.
I have some big containers I use as large petri dishes. I like the food colouring idea with plates and thought if I added food colouring to agar spore water I could drop single drops all over larger plates and with the colouring I would be able to keep a close track of where they are landing, and where to check in future. Maybe dark blue or red colouring on green plates, if you bother colouring the plated agar at all.

How do these look?

Last picture is a plate I took a transfer from and continued to let it do its thing.

I'd make your transfer chunks smaller and I'd definitely take more transfers from each of those before using them.

Pasty you are the man. I see growth on my plates that I made. For my next plates I am gonna try pouring them. Any advice?

Panda, there are tons of teks on pouring. This is a NON-pour thread. Don't ask about something which is not what the thread is for. It gets confusing. Okay?

Good point there are a lot of pour teks. All I wanted was maybe a point in a direction of a tek he liked. I wasn't trying to detail the thread.

We've talked about so many different things in here at this point it really isn't too big a deal. That said I don't really fuck with pour agar so I can't help ya.

I never really used a tek for pour agar, it seemed pretty simple. I just mix up the agar in a reg mouth pint jar with a grain jar lid. PC and wait until cool enough to handle and pour. Then toss in SAB with a sleeve and a cup of hot water. Pour plates and the mug of water goes on the top. A few hours later I bag em up in new ziplocs and use as needed.

Thank you for the reply. I plan on posting pics once I get it all going. Is the cup of hot water to cut down on condensation on the plates?

I just used this recipe today and would like to add;
These values (measurements) hold true for regular agar as well (powdered, myc grade from vendors).

I think this is the only method I used when I was getting started that I still use today. I love me some pasty's.

I put 50 into my un inoculated agar storage tote today. The condensation should be gone in a couple days.
