Chaga fruiting body?
    #22425013 - 10/23/15 10:06 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

So, from what I know about inonotus obliquus, it produces a sterile conk (what is harvested) and a fruiting body. I read that the fruiting body is not often seen. The sterile conk is shown on the bottom of the first picture, and what i suspect is the fruiting body is above. Further, the birch was dead, and the sterile conk was also dead and dry with some mold growing on it. Does anyone know if this is a chaga fruiting body?

Awesome!

Do you know anything about culturing chaga Alan?

I'm making up some plates to hopefully culture some live chaga I found. I'm also going to try some of the fruiting body to see if it is still viable. I was planning on eventually inoculating dowels and transfer to live birch. I'm hoping it can be done by cloning the sterile conk.

Sounds like a good idea.
