Everyone knows up until the internet occured that newspapers were all yellow journalism.

And yes, some models do predict a mini ice age in the geologically near future.

The first article I opened from there was a scientist saying the ice age is around the corner, we just have to wait 10,000 years. That was the Deseret News one. Most of the other ones were unaccessible or single scientists making a prediction. This is not the same as the scientific consensus we have today for global warming. Show me NASA and NOAA saying this, these sources are crap. I can find you a news article for anything.

Responsible posters read every reply before submitting a new reply to a thread, so that the flow of conversation goes uninterrupted and continues toward truly enlightening discussion.

Honestly this may turn out to be a good thing : if the planet warms too much the ice beds that trap methane on the ocean floor will melt releasing apocalyptic amounts of methane at once and incinerating the earth.

I would rather try to survive an ice age then a global firestorm .

Hurry up and freeze! Just give me another year to finish my survival prep.

I just don't want it to burn.  I live in Siberian climate . Cold doesn't scare me. Hear does. Freezing is a peaceful, painless death. Burning is agony.

i didn't say you wanted it to burn...did you hear Michael Caine when you read my post?

i'm just saying...in connection to that other thread, about boredom...and in general, i've said it before too...you want an apocalypse, it seems, because then you can use the skill set and supplies you've been acquiring for yourself since however long.

that's why you're so into the subject of cataclysm and the end of the world and what-not...because you want to show yourself that you're the king of survival, or whatever. isn't it? i mean, you just a couple posts up literally asked for the world to hurry up and freeze.

Apparently you didn't read the part where j said j want it to freeze to prevent an even greater disaster.

I don't want a catastrophe at all . I have a great life and love my life and the world.

And all the supplies I have still won't give me more then a minuscule chAnce of surviving a global catastrophe.

What you are saying is stupid. It's like saying people wear seat belts because they want to be in A car crash , wear helmets because they want to smash their heads on the concrete And have fire extinguishers becAuse they want their house to burn down.

Preparing for a bad thing does not equal wanting a bad thing.

That's like saying people eat healthy because they want cancer or brush their teeth because they want cavities.

Didn't we already prove years ago that ice ages come and go every few hundred thousand years or something? If so, why do we need a confirmation that this cycle simply to decided to do its thing? If they said it wasn't coming, I would have been a little more worried.

sure i did. you said you wanted the world to prevent a worse heat death, so you opt for freezing instead. you hope for it. you're so convinced doom is coming our way that you'd prefer it happen your way, because you have a better idea on what would be a preferable death and because you'd have more of a chance of surviving that, and it would of course make you right all along. of course you'd prefer it. you keep acting as if the world is assured destruction and you're the only one that knows it, cares, and is prepared.

but it's all bullshit to begin with.

(case in point:

Lol. This is how conservatives value information: the more times the same thing is repeated the more true it is. 30 articles all about one or two scientific claims of sensational, but dubious validity.

Of course, this is the crowd that looks at this graph and says the earth is cooling:

Or this chart and don't see enough correlation:

you want so bad to survive the end of the world, an end that's not coming, so you'll constantly pander about survival gear and rail about how unprepared everyone else is, and how you've got your survival on lock when doom and gloom comes, which makes you feel good about yourself.

it's no need to take offence. we all like to feel good.

i don't think prepping is a horrible idea...just a conceited one, especially since there's no disaster coming that won't be looked at and assessed by many many more people than just one's self, and those people will help all the teeny-tiny "unaware" people that Moonshoe pander's too 24/7 so that he feels like he's accomplishing something.

good for him. but it is what it is...an attempt to garner attention and some feels.

i mean, just look at how offended he gets when someone tells him he likes to survive...i mean, he clearly wants to prove something here...personally if he's gonna get peeved at me honestly admiring his tenacity, then it just goes to show, he's not just happy with prep...he wants to prove he's right about an apocalypse.

Being prepared is fine. When prepping becomes a hobby or obsession, then it is weird.

Why is it weird to have prepping as a hobby? It's an awesome, practical hobby.

You think it's somehow less weird to spend money on stamps or baseball cards instead of camping gear, essential every day items and food ?

Why in the world is it "weird" to have vegetable gardening And wilderness survival skills and martial arts as hobbies ? These are all kick ass hobbies.

Akira - the reality is you don't know the future . When you say things like "no catastrophe is coming" you are being completely delusional.

I don't know a catastrophe is imminent but I know it is possible. Pretending otherwise is bullshit .

actually what's delusional is assuming that you're gonna be left in a post-apocalyptic world where you'll need martial arts to defend your stacks of dried and canned goods from marauders.

prepping it a fine thing to do. constantly assuming the end of the world is nigh is delusional.

which is fine. take pride in yourself man. all i was saying is "good for you". i give my nod of approval. :sadyes: you'll probably be the best person to talk to about post-apocalypse survival. hell, you might even have some magic and tarot to really help flesh out your survival attempt.

Show me NASA and NOAA saying this, these sources are crap. I can find you a news article for anything.

Nobody is saying the south pole is going to melt. Nobody is saying there won't be ice at the North Pole. What they claim is there will be ice free summers, and what I've heard scientists say is it will happen within 30 years or so.

We are stuck between a rock and a hard place - either a methane supercharged uber global warming scenario or an ice age , either of which would be the end of civilization as we know it.

This is why I prepare and your prep should be applicable to any and all scenarios not just one.
So you need strong sunscreen and tons of firewood and warm clothes.
