About a week ago I posted my first thread looking for advice on a monotub I cased and put into fruiting. I was told to stay on my course and now a week later I am growing slightly anxious!

I also just put my other cased tub into fruiting today.. its just got a few pokers of mycellium out thru the casing and the whole top is otherwise just coir so I figured Id move it into fruiting! Good idea? Bad Idea? Thanks

Upload the pictures here so they can expand properly.
If that's a casing layer then yes, it should be in fruiting and all is well. A little overcolonized but it's fine.

A casing layer is only supposed to be about 30% colonized before you expose it to fruiting conditions. I assume you have a bulk substrate under the casing layer that is 100% colonized.

30-50% is about where I like it.
It depends on the strain. With what I use most, if I initiated fruiting with a casing like that it would absolutely be @ 100% by the time pinning began. You want to pre-empt that curve, so it looks more the way yours does by the time the pins are coming in. At least that's my thought on it. My variety is known for aggressive casing colonization and overlay though.
I've been liking to let my casings overcolonize, a bit less then yours, then patch the majority of it so it is extremely even.
Regardless, you'll be fine.
--------------------
I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

A cube known for overlay? I would like to see this, since I've never seen overlay in cubensis in my life.

At least by this definition http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/5631638
IDK it may not actually be overlay, it just keeps muching casing as its fruited. It's quite common for most multispore grows and the majority of clones.
Saw this crazy pic of transkei overlay http://fsre.nl/transkei/
I'm using redboy. Grown a bit of oak ridge as well which didn't seem to typically go after the casing layer with nearly so much varacity.

That thing needs a good misting asap. Knock down all the aerial mycelium adv you will start seeing pins
-------------------- Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.

I think it looks pretty good. All my best tubs had a ton of aerial myc.

Overlay is a mycelum formation that is detremental for pinning. Pans will overlay easy and anyone who sees pan overlay suddenly understands why a fully colonized casing with cubes is neither overlay, nor a problem. With pans the overlaid myc will not support a pinset and the pins want to come up from underneath. Often they abort on the way up. With an overcolonized cube casing, the pins will just form at the top and act as if the substrate was simply uncased.

^ Thank you, difficult to explain why overlay doesn't even really apply to cubes.
