People are becoming totally reliant on machines

Contactless payment and chip cards. You put your phone down on the point and you can pay for your merchandise. I think this is to get people used to swiping their hand over a device for payment, the microchipping of the masses is coming soon. In fact, without machines you can't even pump a gallon of gas anymore. GPS navigation has led people to be unable to navigate. If I gave a road map to a millenial they won't even be able to find their way with a real map. They are so used to listening to the machine voice telling them where to go. I don't have a problem with out technology advancing, I have a problem with it dumbing down people and turning them helpless, into pathetic creatures totally reliant and unable to do anything for themselves.

You are so right about the millenials.
It won't be long before the masses are cyborgs with computers built in to them. They will be able to do all the stuff a smart phone does by just thinking about it.

Wrong. When I was young technology made people smarter. I learned DOS from command line, how to build a computer, do some simple coding, as was standard for regular computer users. Today technology does for you what you should be able to do yourself. Children using windows or macs don't know anything about computers except how to double click. Tech is dumbing people down at a rapid pace. Its simply replacing the thinking process. You don't have to think because there's an app for that.

Chipping people will never become the norm As a person who grew up in a strict Christian church, (don't follow it anymore) Americans would be terrified based on what their biblical text says

once again i dont know what kind of dumb kids your talking to but i mean DOS wtf are you talking about thats like saying people are dumb becaue the dont know how to repair black and white tv's. Ohhh people today are so lazy right we should abolish all machinery and dig all the ditches by hand only then will millenials understand what a hard days work really is.

I'm a unix man myself. But, if you use a windows machine, DOS is extremely useful to know.

Kids these days learn how to code as well. If anything it's probably more common, since computers are so much cheaper. A Raspberry Pi is cheap as fuck.

In 10 years self driving cars are common.
But yeah half the people who walk the street are at that moment working a phone. Its the beginning of the cyborg revolution, that phone is going to become an integral part of them and at a certain point you wonder if its a human with bot parts or a bot with human parts.

Apps are the culprit. Takes all the nuts and bolts coding out of the equation, and this could be said about the current generation of so-called techies. I remember programming control systems(AMX/Crestron) when you had to write hundreds if not thousands of lines of code for a simple system. Now it's all windows based. Brings back memories of the apple 11e turtle graphics program when I was younger. Most kids lost interest and wanted to play that stupid Oregon Trails game. It's no different with kids today.

It's like a mechanic only better because more people have computers than cars these days.

pretty well sure...but c'mon it's more than that. some really great creations and innovations are made everyday in that field. it's not just for tech support.
so i wouldn't exactly equate it being a mechanic but i guess it's sort of....

Nobody wants to pop their hood of their car or computer. Laziness or fear of making it worse I suppose.

It's actually not so much to memorize. And, the more code you write, the more you remember. And if I run into something that I don't remember, I've got a book on the shelf or google to reference for it. When you have become proficient in 1 language, its really easy to pick up other languages. The biggest hangup for me is, accidentally mixing languages when I'm coding, like typing "for" instead of "do" etc. I enjoy coding though. Some do, some don't.

i would opt for the latter. some people are really unsavvy with computer stuff...i haven't ever like constructed a desktop or anything, i don't know much about the inside of a computer. i know some stuff in software and OS and whatnot, but not hardware stuff...i know i'd be a little off-put if i had to go digging in my computer to find a problem. i'm sure it's not too difficult though...thankfully my computer isn't shitting the bed.

i think it's really cool. i like shit like...video games...apps...ect...i mean, c'mon, it's just neat-o that people can type in lines of code and boom you've got a game engine or a cool website, or even a cool new device!
i think it's pretty damn cool. underrated field.
