Requesting info on this self healing port pic, can't find in search.

Hey everyone!!! Hope all of you are well.
I am trying to make lids like these. I like how clean they are, and should streamline my process a bit more. For some reason have been neglecting to make them. Would love to put the aluminum foil and rubber bands to bed

1.) Where can I purchase these white lids that fit quart jars?
2.)I know the red port is silicone, but what is the other side/how do I make it? And are both holes to be drilled the same size?
If I could get these 2 questions answered I'll be good to go. Couldn't find what I needed specifically in the search tool.
Thanks!

Just put silicone on both sides of the lid. I just used the metal lids that come on the quart jars instead of plastic. I also switched from the red silicone to clear silicone. I like being able to see where the hole is through the lid.
I'm pretty certain these are just Ball quart plastic lids. I have some in my drawer. Got them at Target.
I use SFDs as well silicones to the underside of my lid. Some people put one on top as well but I've done 3 dozen jars now with no contamination problems.

1) metal lids have better adhesion if you're going for silicon ships. Not bashing plastic. It definitely has its pros, but its major pro for me is kinda gone when you're using ships.
2) synthetic filter discs. Cut into nickel sized pieces. You can get them in our sponsors page. A pack of 10 for like $10 and you can cut it to filter 100 lids.
Basically most of us just put the jar in the sab, pop the lid and inoculate directly(eliminating ships). After doing agar work in open air doing that. (Popping lids and working in the open air of a sab/fh) We just find it to be an acceptable sterile practice, since it works with agar.

Sweet! I'll be sticking with the metal then. Is there a good drill size for these ports?
Also, I'm not really familiar with SFDs. Are utilized in place of the tyvek essentially? For the GE. Would I tape them on with micropore or something?
Thanks a bunch ^_^

Silicone them on for metal, or if you use a plastic lid.. heat it with a blow torch until its melting a bit, then put the sfd on.
Make sure everything is nicely dried on the lid before you use them.

Is it pretty intuitive when using the silicon to put the sfd on? Never really worked with it lol.

Yeah. It survives high heat from the pressure cooker. I work with silicon almost every day .
What I do at work is put it on the sealing part, let it sit about 5-10 minutes to dry up some, then seal it(put the sfd on). This method works well with lids too.

I use the 1/4 inch drill bit when I make lids with ports for both the port and the SFD but my last 12 jars I did away with the ports and just went up to the next bit size in my kit for the filter. It's not much bigger I just can't remember the exact size. I use a SAB so I just open my jars briefly for inoculation. Those jars all turned out fine as well and since I'm using mostly agar wedges now, the ports are pointless.
I would use SFD's. I use Tyvek for my first few and while the jars performed fine, I can tell the difference between the Tvek and SFD. I wouldn't mess with polyfil or microporous tape. If you are going most of the way with silicone, why not go all of the way.
