Cause and Effect
    #2242059 - 01/14/04 05:23 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

A budding biologist in black-framed glasses and white lab coat gets ahold of a trained frog. Setting the frog on some large white graph paper he says, "Jump frog, jump!" With a magnificent leap, the frog jumps 3.5'. The biologist writes down in his logbook, "Normal, healthy frog jumps 3.5'."

Using local anesthesia, the scientist surgically removes the frog's right foreleg. Giving the frog time to recover from the trauma, the biologist again places the frog on the graph paper and says, "Jump frog, jump!" The frog struggles, then with a powerful leap, the frog jumps 2.43'. The biologist writes down in his logbook, "Normal, healthy frog with right foreleg removed jumps 2.43'."

Using local anesthesia, the scientist surgically removes the frog's left foreleg. Giving the frog time to recover from the trauma, the biologist again places the frog on the graph paper and says, "Jump frog, jump!" The frog struggles, then with a powerful leap, the frog jumps 1.84'. The biologist writes down in his logbook, "Normal, healthy frog with right and left forelegs removed jumps 1.84'."

Using local anesthesia, the scientist surgically removes the frog's right rear leg. Giving the frog time to recover from the trauma, the biologist again places the frog on the graph paper and says, "Jump frog, jump!" The frog struggles and with a spinning, twisting leap, jumps 1.22'. The biologist writes down in his logbook, "Normal, healthy frog with both front legs and right rear leg removed jumps 1.22'."

Using local anesthesia, the scientist surgically removes the frog's remaining leg. Giving the frog time to recover from the trauma, the biologist again places the frog on the graph paper and says, "Jump frog, jump!" The frog squirms and writhes, but to no avail. The frustrated scientist shouts, "Jump frog, jump!" The frog squiggles furiously, but cannot move. Now the enraged researcher yells, "Jump you goddamn frog!" The willing, but exhausted frog gives up. The biologist writes down in his logbook, "Normal, healthy frog with all legs removed is deaf."

Funny story, but is there some point to all this?

Making false assumptions, just because the frog cant jump after it has all its limbs cut off doesnt mean its deaf. Im sure you probably got that much, maybe hes poking fun at people.  :syringe:

I take exception to this thread.  Or at least to the subject matter.

What a sick disgusting story of animal cruelty. I want the name, and address of the scientist's location, for I shall report him to the Humane Society--immediately!

I'm sure you have some deeper meaning for this, Swami...but all I can think is "what a waste of a research grant!"  :nonono:

Hehe.. that's excellent.

But the world is so full of conclusions like that, it's actually more sad than funny.

does it have anything to do with "jumping" to conclusions?

That "scientist" is fucking around with things he doesnt understand. C.S. Lewis calls those ppl magicians.

moral: dont eat, dont sleep, dont breath, dont shit, dont look, dont hear, dont move, dont do ANYTHING, except believe!!!!

alternate moral: there aint no such things as morals, dumbass.

If we are constantly told we can't do something, or if we tell ourselves that we can't do something, if our choices or options are taken away, eventually we won't be able to do that which we could have done had we not been limited by others or ourselves.

I suppose the "deafness" could be compared to "blindness". Eventually, we will no longer be able to see that which we could have been capable of.

Perhaps others missed your analogous meaning but I didn't.  You should come back and post.  We have been having discussions where your input would have been interesting.

Swami:  I don't get it.
