Purity of spores under microscope
    #22417019 - 10/22/15 07:16 AM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Hello-- I recently purchased a spore print of P. cubensis for microscope analysis.  I will not name the supplier.  Upon looking at the solution under my microscope, I noticed that there were particles present that were not the typical P. cubensis ellipsoid spores.  All work was done in a still air glove box and the instructions were followed to the letter.  Since I couldn't plate the spores to ID the possible contaminants, I had to throw them out.

Can anyone recommend a vendor for prints/syringes that consistently contains pure P. cubensis spores?  (I am seeking spores for microscopy use only and would like to hear from people who have analyzed samples via microscopy).

Were they particles or biological?

Lots of times when scraping especially from paper, particles of paper will come off.

If you used sterilized tap water you may see stuff from before the sterilization also.

no. no spore print is ever clean. you wasted your spores by throwing them away. you'll never get a "pure" print, ever. spores are not clean.
