Two arrested after overdose death
http://otfca.net/two-arrested-after-overdose-death/#more-2896
Two men were arrested Sunday and charged with involuntary manslaughter for their alleged involvement in an overdose of a 31-year-old woman.
Jeremy J. Pitts, 38, of Lacarne, and Steven M. Phillips, 32, of Port Clinton, had warrants out for their arrest issued by the Ottawa County Municipal Court. Each was charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter, a third-degree felony, following the death of Sarah Hetrick early Sunday.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation and according to a report by Detective Joel Barton, Pitts made a cell phone call to Phillips at 12:56 a.m. Sunday telling him that he needed to come to his house in Lacarne due to an emergency. According to the report, at the time of the call Phillips did not think it was “really an emergency.”
Phillips arrived at Pitts’ residence in the 5500 block of West Erie Street about 30 minutes after the call. He told police that he saw Hetrick on the floor and that she was hardly breathing, but Pitts told him he didn’t want to contact emergency medical services or law enforcement.
About 45 minutes later, Pitts put Hetrick in a vehicle and Phillips began driving her to the hospital. Phillips said as soon as he got in the vehicle, he called 911 at 2:16 a.m. to report the overdose. The vehicle was pulled over by an Ohio Highway Patrol officer for speeding and EMS was dispatched to the scene.
Efforts to revive Hetrick were unsuccessful. She was taken to Magruder Hospital and later pronounced dead.
More than an hour passed between the first call Pitts made to Phillips and Phillips’ 911 call. Phillips told the detective he thought Hetrick could have been saved if EMS would have been called earlier.
The sheriff’s office, the Ottawa County Drug Task Force and the Port Clinton Police Department assisted in making the arrests.
Both Pitts and Phillips are being held without bond at the Ottawa County Detention Facility.
Pitts is also awaiting trial for fifth-degree felony charges of trafficking drugs. He was released on bond in August.

PORT CLINTON — Two Ottawa County men are charged with involuntary manslaughter and are being held in lieu of $50,000 bond.
Jeremiah Pitts, 38, of Lacarne and Steven Phillips, 32, of Port Clinton were charged in Ottawa County Municipal Court following the fatal heroin overdose of Sarah Hetrick, 31, of Port Clinton early Sunday morning.
Mr. Pitts called Mr. Phillips about 12:56 a.m. for help with an emergency at the 5500 block of West Erie Street in Lacarne.
Mr. Phillips arrived about 30 minutes later and saw Mr. Pitts and Ms. Hetrick, who was on the floor and barely breathing, according to a report by Detective Joel Barton, a member of the Ottawa County Drug Task Force.
Mr. Pitts said Ms. Hetrick overdosed, and asked Mr. Phillips not to call police. They loaded Ms. Hetrick into a vehicle and Mr. Phillips departed for the hospital. Mr. Phillips called 911 at 2:16 a.m., according to the report.
A trooper with the Ohio Highway Patrol stopped Mr. Phillips on State Rt. 163, west of State Rt. 2. He performed CPR and a Ottawa County sheriff’s deputy provided naloxone to the victim. She was taken to Magruder Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The two defendants are scheduled for a preliminary hearing Monday in Municipal Court.

Sounds like she might have been ok if the guy wasn't afraid of getting arrested... which he did. Not condoning the behavior, but maybe if we weren't all terrified of being incarcerated, maybe we'd all be more willing to report ods. I've seen this type of thing happen a lot. This woman didn't have to die. But they just HAD to get pulled over, and I'm sure they made them sit there for a long time waiting for the fucking EMS when they were already going to the hospital. Stupid. Fucking. Pigs.

Agree. The fear of incarceration is clearly the reason why he didn't call EMS. And Phillips didn't do shit, he arrived on the scene an tried to help. From that info, he didn't know it was an OD until he got there. Furthermore, the cop probably delayed the situation further. Nonetheless, the girl killed herself. Incarceration isn't am excuse to stop seeking help, but it's enough to make most people delay. Middle finger goes out to Nixon.

What a fucking waste of life and tax payers money...
That cop should be charged as well for keeping them from the hospital.
*Cop pulls them over; "Where you going so fast this night?"
"Please sir, this woman overdosed on drugs an we need to get her to the hospital ASAP"
"Alright let me just call an ambulance then while you three wait here"

Not minding that time's passing by I've got all and more, My smile, just as before. Is all that I carry with me I talk to myself, I need nobody else. I'm lost and I'm mine, yes I'm free

So it doesn't say what substance at all?.
That's terrible friendship... If someone is ODing you get them help and call 911. You don't just wait until they are about to die to get help
